Runway Review - Erin Wasson x RVCA

INSPIRATION: Shipwrecked. In the desert.
WHO WAS THERE: Bruce Willis, his wife Emma Heming, Taylor Momsen, Alexa Chung
ACCESSORIES: Long chain necklaces, some bearing crucifixes, by Wasson's jewelry line LowLuv. Mid calf boots by LD Tuttle in weathered brown leather.
WHAT WE THOUGHT: RVCA is for skaters. Or at least it used to be. Wasson has succeeded in lifting the streetwear line to a higher echelon with a collection that combines wearable shades and intricate detailing with a rock and roll edge. Proportions were important - cutoff shorts were paired with cape-like shirts and skinny jeans with short tops. A polka-dot theme was threaded throughout, with details as disparate as laser-cut holes, brass grommets, gold paillettes and, well, the real thing in patterns ranging from big and bold to tiny and dainty. Flattering neutrals like camel, khaki and forest green made the dressier looks seem casually cool, and there was a slight nod to the 80's with harem pants with a high-waisted bubble effect. Backstage, many of the players described the clothing as "So Erin." Well, it turns out that "So Erin" is also so us.
