"The House of Paul" fashion show is presented once-a-year by the tech crew responsible for building the tents, rigging and stages and everything else that makes the magic of Fashion Week possible. Except rather than the new season's togs, these burly dudes design, create and model outfits made with plastic sheeting, duct tape and whatever else they have to hand.
Says an insider: "The crew boss is named Paul so that's why it's called The House of Paul. Other crews on site are in the show as well -- each season they have a theme. But the key is they have to make outfits out of items they use on a day to day basis, i.e. the crew transports the magazines into the lobby so they might make an outfit out of magazine covers. It's super fun and the guys are the models."
I'll have a video recorder there tomorrow and will link to the show on Wednesday. But in the meantime, check out this YouTube clip of a previous House of Paul fashion show. Supermodels need not apply!
Meanwhile ... at the Tracy Reese show in Bryant Park today I ran into Ross "the Intern" Mathews, a former "Tonight Show" staple and "Celebrity Fit Club" star turned pop culture expert with his new web site, HelloRoss.com. Asked if he had a style muse, Mathews thought for a moment.
"Can I say a Muppet?" he asked. "Oscar the Grouch is my muse, because he's always naked. And if you can look good wearing a can you know you're hot."
In fact, Ross's fashion week look probably had more to do with his stylist boyfriend, Salvador Camarena, whose own corner of the Internet is FashionSalvation.com.
As we were talking, a fan approached and asked how long the two had been together. "About a year," he said. "We actually met when I was on a date with someone else that wasn't going so well. Don't write that!"
