THE SCOOP: Known for her downtown cool vibe, Catherine Malandrino's inspiration for Spring 2010 is tribal desert-meets-streets-of-New-York. The beauty look follows suit with a palette of smudgy earth tones and exotic hair. "Kohl eyeliner was like the first primitive sunglasses – the blackness would absorb the sun and take the glare out of your eye. We lined with black and applied black mascara and then smudged it all before it dried so the girls look a little messy," says Pecheux. Hair was done in a variety of four ways: tribal braids, top-of-the-head braided bun, swept into a turban, or loose and flowing with a Polynesian floral headpiece. For nails, "It's all about texture! We used the nude Desert Suede and mixed coffee grounds and sugar into the polish so it looked sandy and dense," says Jan Arnold, Founder of CND.

GET THE LOOK-MAKEUP:
All products by MAC. Sweep a neutral eyeshadow across lid to naturally brighten eyes, and then apply Eye Khol in Smolder thickly to top lash line and lower inner rim. Apply two coats of Pro Lash Mascara, and then gently smudge with your fingers for a gritty look. Apply BlushCreme in Uncommon on your cheeks for an earthly bronze, and dab on a neutral warm lipstick on your lips for a warm glow. "We applied everything with our fingers for the most natural look – no tools!" adds Pecheux.

GET THE LOOK-HAIR: All products by Bumble And Bumble. For braids, hair was kept tightly in place with Holding Spray. The braided top-of-head updo was first wet with Prep Spray, then volumized with Hair Powder and finally locked into place with Spray de Mode. Loose, flowing waves were texturized with Thickening Spray and then topped with vibrant headpieces. Lastly, hair tucked into turbans was prepped with Tonic Spray and finished with Surf Spray for volume that more easily stays in place under cloth wraps.
