Breaking News - Estee Lauder To Close Prescriptives
Filed under: Beauty, News, Makeup
It's a sad day for skincare junkies.
Estée Lauder announced today that it will shutter Prescriptives, the 30-year old skincare brand.
An email, which was sent out to Lauder employees at 5:01 PM from William Lauder and Fabrizio Freda, stated that global wholesale distribution of Prescriptives will cease by January 31, 2010. The brand's website will remain open until products run out. You can view the full press release here.
The email stated: "As we outlined in our long-term corporate strategy, we are evaluating, and where possible, working hard to turn around under-performing brands. After a thorough analysis of the Prescriptives brand, we have concluded that the brand's long term business model is no longer viable in the current market environment.
"We believe that this decision will allow The Estée Lauder Companies to redirect and more sharply focus our resources to key strategic imperatives where we see the highest growth potential for our Company."
From their Magic foundations to Super Liner Preventor Xtreme to Calyx fragrance, the news of the closure has invoked near violent reactions at StyleList headquarters. We editors are rushing to Prescriptives.com to stock up on our favorite goods.
Which product will you miss the most?

I will miss Calyx their great fragrance. People would stop me and ask what that great scent I am wearing is.

A lot of how our skin looks is determined by what we eat, exercise, limiting alchol use and not smoking!

I am in full agreement with you Peggy. Anyone who spends 1 dime on junk to put on their face and believes it makes a difference is a fool. They can try to cover it up, stitch it up, stretch it out but it is a fruitless battle against gravity. Everyone gets old or dies young, I cherish every one of my wrinkles...I've earned them.

I totally agree! Those scumbags selling their crap need to get a life and a real job!

People post their products inappropriately on these websites because they are big, stinky poopy buttholes.

I am going to start stockpiling Calyx!

After 14 years of wearing only Calyx, I just switched to Dolce & Gabbana "Light Blue" - a very similiar clean, crisp scent.

It has been my "signature scet" since it first came out. Guess we start stockpiling and hope supplies last. I can't be without it either!

Does anyone buy from these "ads"? LOL

This is sad. I used to work for Prescriptives and I totally love their products. It was one of the few scent-free brands and the foundation was such a big seller. Super Line Preventer is a great serum but Estee owns it so they say what goes.

So Upset!!! The only brand that covers up redness is leaving the market??? Back to the drawing board........I have been a prescriptives user for over 15 years and have never found anything to compare. I have terrible skin and get so many compliments on my makeup by folks that have seen me without.....sorry to see it go.

I am on makeupalley.com a couple of times a week. How could no one have talked about this? I am so upset. Please feel free to email me about this. I lost one of my favorite cousins this year. This year has been crappy. Plus Guiding Light went off the air. (Laugh if you want. It may seem silly, but I'm bummed. And I'm in my 50's)

Pluzeeee, Acai is not a weight loss product, it's actually a high powered antioxident. I know as i take it as prescribed from my homeopatic doctor and have been taking it for alot longer than it's been advertised. of course people have energy after taking it, your supposed to the same as if you take any antioxident. I take several different one's all in powder form each morning and about 5 mins. after drinking them i have lots of energy. OCP is one, as well as CO-Q-10, and Resveratrol. all come in powder form and are better than taking any tablets. As far as weight loss goes, i guess if your taking the Acai along with a colon cleanse EVERYDAY, you would lose weight.

It's too bad that Prescriptives will no longer be sold. Their products are excellent. I used to buy them but they are too expensive. I think if they lowered their prices they would be more competitive, especially in this economy. I would start buying their products again if the prices were reasonable. They don't need to make a $90.00 profit off a $95.00 bottle of moisturizer. They could make big profits with quantity. Do you want to sell one bottle for $95.00 or 10 bottles at $50.00? Simple economics.

I agree. As an Avon rep, you can obtain beautiful skin by using Avon's ANEW products. You usually see results within two weeks. www.youravon.com/dward0000

I've tried Avon. The problem with their skin care products is that they seem to think that everything should double as a creme sachet--they haven't gotten past this mentality. Why should face products be perfumed? Their products irritate my skin and I doubt I'm alone. Until they stop perfuming, I can't take them seriously, regardless of how good their technology is.
