Fashionable to be bad? Nike will continue to sponsor Serena Williams despite her profanity-laced outburst at the U.S. Open. Photo: Michael Loccisano, Getty Images
A spokeswoman for Nike, Serena's official tennis clothing sponsor, told WWD, "She has publicly apologized and has stated she let her emotions get the best of her. Nike stands behind Serena and looks forward to her outstanding career continuing."
But is this another case of fashion condoning bad behavior?
There were the black and white pics of supermodel Kate Moss caught in the cocaine act and look at the waif-y Brit now. Moss is doing just fine with her successful Topshop line and, since the scandal, has landed the Vogue UK, Vogue Russia and W magazine September issue covers.
In another case of bad model goes on to land huge campaigns, Naomi Campbell's angry outbursts, including hitting her assistant with her cell phone, have all but been forgiven. Campbell recently modeled furs for Dennis Basso.
But is being fashionably bad a good thing? Or is it high time these brands choose better (role) models, and toss the rotten apples out of the barrel? Vote in the poll and leave us a comment below.
