How to Wear Ruffled T-shirts
Blouses, dresses, skirts – even handbags and shoes – are all getting the feminine treatment for fall in the form of a structured ruffle. With ruching a regular on the runways (including most recently for spring 2010), a few extra frills will serve you well throughout the year. Designer T-shirts are an easy way to capitalize on the trend and not spend a fortune. - By Lesley Kennedy

While serious ruffles, like the ones on this pretty BCBG halter can work for thin or flat-chested women, larger or bustier women should wear with care. "You don't want the ruffle to expand out too much if it's getting a push from a D-cup or bigger," says Charla Krupp, author of "How Not to Look Old."

A ruffled shirt gets toughened up a bit when it's done in black, like this V-neck style from BCBG.

A soft pink tank gets even more feminine with a few well-placed ruffles. "They can make you look sweet and innocent and approachable....even if you're not!" says Krupp.

Danielle Mariott, apparel creative director at Overstock.com, says ruffles add playfulness and whim to any outfit. "The September issue of Vogue magazine suggests that Americans, contrary to Europeans, are quite skilled at the art of having fun," she says. "The ruffle is a prime example."

Mariott says she would stick to short sleeves, tanks and cap-sleeves when going for a ruffled look. "A long sleeve may add too much fabric to the look and may appear over done," she says.
