High Heels Trip Up Gaetano Navarra's Milan Show

If the catwalk at Milan Fashion Week is anything to go by, the hottest trend for Spring 2010 is... model snafus?!?
First, we had the model oozing blood from her stomach at the Seduzioni Diamonds show. Calm down, calm down -- it was fake.
Now, the pretties at Gaetano Navarra's Milan show have given us -- not once, but twice -- the ultimate walk of shame, striding down the runway for a few feet in teetering gold pumps before giving up, removing the floundering footwear and walking the rest of the way barefoot.
Amateurs.
Don't get us wrong. We love a good model pratfall as much as -- okay, more than -- the next person. But perhaps designers might want to reconsider the shoes they make these girls wear?
Heck, if an Amazonian goddess can't make it a few yards in these treacherous shoes, what are we plebeians meant to do?
To make matters worse, a closer look reveals that the too-big heels were stuffed with cotton (the oldest styling trick in the book) to fit the model feet. But on the catwalk, that's a recipe for "runway roadkill."
Of course, we could be wrong. Maybe it wasn't a style slip-up at all. Perhaps former President Bush was in the crowd and she was just warming up her pitching arm.

Hi! I'm just a regular person who is not selling anything. I think more models should ditch the ridiculous shoes they are expected to teeter down the catwalk wearing. As for throwing them, it might not be a bad idea, but then they'd never work again. Well, depending on who they hit.

Regarding the Bush comment....Ican't imagine anyone ever referring to Obama so disrespectfully....ever.......take off the blinders and wait until you can really make an informed opinion of actions that Obama takes on behalf of the American people....so far he's just all talk; Unfortunately rhetoric doesn't match his actions

In case you missed the news, Bush had a shoe thrown at him by a malcontent as a gesture of disrespect. The comment was a reference to and riff on the incident, not a diss to Bush and certainly not a gesture of support for Obama. I know you're upset that your candidate didn't win the election, but really, not everything comes down to Democrats vs. Republicans. When Obama makes his first public gaffe, that too will enter into the realm of humorous aside, like Bush's vomiting on the Japanese, Clinton's not inhaling or Carter's lusting in his heart. Notoriety is non-partisan, as is such notoriety being used to comic effect.
And is it just me, or does that pic look like the same model and the same shoes?

If you can't imagine anyone being "as disrespectful" to Obama, then you must be living under a rock. Go on any story posted about our president or his family, and you will read racist, nasty and downright ugly statements.

what on earth are you talking about? this is about shoes and the runway, how is it that people have the ability to make everything into politics? AND particularly, how did this article make you think of Obama in any way, the writer didn't even mention Obama's name. You need to calm down and go find some political websites that will gladly listen to your opinion on Obama and I'm sure they'd love some "friendly" banter.
As for here, we talk about shoes, it's the stylelist. Ugh.

I think that's more fashionable than having to suffer aching feet and in later years and arched back... I like it better bare foot... i think they should continue with that and keep all models bare footed during a catwalk... less suffering for something that changes more than the advancements in technology.

I agree, I feel the models should walk barefoot. Isn't it the clothing they are supposed to be selling not the shoes?

I've been there: just before going on a runway, years ago, I was handed a pair of very high platform cork slides, a size or two too large. I'd never worn something like that and didn't know how to compensate so when I went to pivot I rolled my ankle and nearly fell off the runway.

It's certainly a statement. The shoes may be to die for, but are nowhere near wearable. It's about time someone put their foot down (without the shoe)

The fact that anyone finds models these days remotely attractive let alone hot is insane. Talk about too skinny & no tone let alone figure & media press & fashion world want that as hot. What happened to the old days like Katy ireland or cindy crawford or Carmen Electra where the models might not have been curvy or have big assets but they were still hot. How not only do they not have figures or assets but their not hot & having assets doesnt make you hot. Britney Spears isn't curvy but she's attractive. Jessica Simpson was curvey and obviously even when she put on a few pounds she was still hot. Having shoulders & a stomach the size of most people's wrists isnt attractive.

This is a mans opinion. I think going barefoot can be very sexy if the woman has pretty feet. I have been told I give the greatest foot massages by many women. If there is ever a fashion show in Michigan look me up.

ok, let me see if i get this right: yer a model, right? and all you have to do is look good and walk a straight line, turn around, and walk back, right? and you can't do one of the two things that you are paid an outrageous sum of money to do: walk in heels. gutsy move? what are you people, nuts? it takes guts to play rugby. it takes guts to fly to the moon. it takes guts to fight a war. IT DOES NOT TAKE GUTS FOR A BIMBO TO REMOVE HER SHOES AND WALK A STRAIGHT LINE FOR FIFTY FEET! please, all of you that follow fashion go fork yourselves.

Kudos to that model! I have a friend who always wore those horrible high heels and pointed toes and now her feet are so deformed she now can't even walk a quarter of a mile anymore in very comfortable shoes without severe pain. Wished, those awful designers would stop this stupid fad once and for all.
