Liz Claiborne Inks Exclusive Deals With JCPenney and QVC

Starting next year, the Liz Claiborne and Claiborne brands will be sold exclusively at JCPenney stores and jcp.com in the U.S., while the Liz Claiborne New York label, designed by Isaac Mizrahi, will cease being sold in department stores all together and will only be sold on QVC.
The JCPenney deal will run for 10 years, starting in August 2010, and will include the launch of a full lifestyle collection covering approximately 30 categories -- including men's and women's apparel, shoes, accessories and home -- under the Liz Claiborne and Claiborne names, and at more affordable prices.
"Liz Claiborne is one of the most recognized brands in the history of American apparel retailing with a deeply loyal following, and our research shows that it is among the most desired by the JCPenney customer," Mike Ullman, the CEO of JCPenney, said in a official statement.
"In capitalizing on each of our strengths, this agreement brings huge benefits to both companies by giving our customers a substantially expanded Liz Claiborne offering at a more accessible price point than ever before."
As for the Mizrahi-designed Liz Clairborne New York label, it will debut on QVC for Fall 2010, with a multi-year agreement for a line of premium apparel, accessories and home products that will be merchandised and sourced by QVC.
"Given QVC's rich, brand-enhancing selling environment and its extremely consumer-centric culture, as well as its recent announcement to support the launch of the comprehensive lifestyle collection "Isaac Mizrahi Live!" [QVC's new Mizrahi-hosted program], QVC is ideal for Liz Claiborne New York," Liz Claiborne CEO William L. McComb said in a statement.
"I am excited to think that Isaac Mizrahi and Liz Claiborne New York will play a major role at QVC as they become one of the great success stories of the next decade."
Mizrahi also has high hopes for the QVC deal. "It affords us the ability to elevate the brand and effectively balance the collection so that we are able to maximize its sales potential," he said in a statement.
"It is exciting for me to link my relationship with Liz Claiborne and my relationship with QVC, together we will revolutionize the way a brand builds and provides a direct voice to the customer."
As we've previously reported, Mizrahi isn't the only high-end designer -- or celebrity -- looking to the mass reach of QVC and HSN to boost exposure and sales.
Badgley Mischka, Molly Sims and Fran Drescher all have HSN lines coming out, while the always entertaining Rachel Zoe is bringing her collection of faux furs to QVC.
So what do you think of Liz Claiborne's new deal? Do you plan on doing more of your shopping on QVC and HSN?

QVC and JC Penny are good venues for Liz Claiborn.
Now affordability is available to me?
Liz and Liz Claiborn are/is quite a classy offering for any woman with taste.

Great for Liz's profits, horrible for all the people that have already been laid off and will be laid off due to this.

Love the clothing! It's been harder and harder to find. Hope this makes it easier and JC Peeney carries a large variety including Elisabeth as well as the quality products.

Have always been draw to Liz styles, but will not buy something I can't try on, so JCP will now be my only source. While I'm OK w/JCP, I'm not OK with being so limited.
And how many people will be laid off???

The last time I was in Macy's, the person there told me that they were going to discontinue carrying Claiborne products because of the overseas exploitation of workers in their factories. I don't know how true that is, but there may be more to this story than "ooh, look, JCP nabbed a deal!" It might be that JCP is the only company that would go near Claiborne at this point.
For the record, I do not work in fashion or retail. I'm just a shopper who was looking for Claiborne jeans at Macy's, and that's what the salesperson told me.

Wow - that's really depressing news. I don't care for the quality of Penney's and I never buy stuff off of Tv - I don't get why they are quitting Macy & Bon-Ton Group . . .

I’m disappointed with this news, I own quite a bit by Liz (purchased at Macy’s & directly through them) and if ifs sold by JCP the quality will drop considerably, plus I don’t buy clothes from QVC.

Just bought my last piece of Liz Caliborne. I don't shop online and will not shop at JCP. Big mistake what they did, I think. First, they ruin the Dana Buchman and Ellen Tracy lines by being taken over by Liz Claiborne and now this.

I've realy missed not buying Liz clothes. I have outfits that I have worn for 20 years. Quality is so good. I don't mind shopping at JCP if quality remains the same and not made in some sweat shop somewhere...like China.
America keeps changing and I guess we have to go with the show.

I for one am happy JCP is going to carry Liz Clairborne. I've never gotten bad customer service. I live in Ohio. For those of you are bumbed that "MACY"S" won't be carrying it any more ...Here's a wake up call...MOST EVERYTHING IS MADE OVER SEAS! Including Liz clothing. Don't be fooled because it happens to say "Macy's". Alot of changes have occured when they went from "Kaufmann's" to "Macy's". Those changes were'nt fot the better!

I'm pretty sure you can find Liz Claiborne merchandise even cheaper than mall prices at TJX Companies, such as TJMaxx, Marshall's, and HomeGoods stores.

I for one am happy JCPenney will be carrying Liz Clairborne clothing. I have never gotten bad service from my ohio JCP. All the associates are friendly and helpful. To all of you that are sad Macy's won't be carrying Liz anymore. NEWSFLASH!!!! Most all clothing is made overseas!! You're naive to think otherwise! Since Kaufmann's became Macy's alot of changes have occured and not for the better! My advice, give JCPenney a chance and give Liz apparel a chance you might just like what you see!
advice give JCPenney a chance if you didn't already. Give Liz Clairborne apparel a look. You might just like what you see!

I don't mind where they sell her line as long as the quality remains the same. I buy her line mainly because I LOVE the fabrics she uses. Also no matter what the size, she maintains a stylish look.
I wore Olga lingerie for years until they "sold out" and their line became very inferior...lost it's quality workmanship and frankly to me, lost it's class! I'm a Wacoal gal now!
Please please please Liz Claiborne, keep your integrity in your fabrics and style and workmanship!!
