Another day, another wacky European beauty pageant.
Hot on the heels of the nip/tucks and tiara madness at Hungary's Miss Plastic, the Miss Homeless Belgium pageant (yes, you read that correctly) crowned 58-year-old itinerant Therese Van Belle as its queen, the Daily Express reports.
As Miss Homeless, Van Belle -- who beat out nine other down-and-out women to win the title -- will receive free housing for one year, the paper reports.
Designed to cast a spotlight on Belgium's homeless population, the five-round pageant/social project included an evaluation of how committed each contestant was to changing her dreary plight, according to the source.
"It was about the contestants' inner strength and determination to get themselves out of their old life and on a new path," pageant organizer Aline Duportail told the Austrian Times.
Though Van Belle will be enjoying new digs, her fellow contestants will reportedly resume living on the street.
