Balloon Boy Inspired By 'Project Runway?'

Balloon Boy's fashion icon? Photo: MyLifetime.com

When we were watching all of the coverage of Balloon Boy yesterday (and all of last night, and this morning), the scene looked vaguely familiar.

Then, after flipping back and forth between CNN and "Project Runway," it all became clear.

The voluminous silver bubble with a sheer quality and iridescent sheen (aka Balloon Boy's ride) was eerily similar to "Project Runway" designer Christopher Straub's ugly bubble-hem minidress on last week's episode -- ya know, the one Michael Kors panned as "A metallic Hefty bag, cinched," and almost had Straub auffed.

Could it be that Balloon Boy was inspired by the reality fashion series? OK, probably not, but we Stylelistas aren't always the most grounded.
