Hot Fall Beauty Trends - Smoky Eyes, 80s Makeup, Ponytails and Gray

Here are a few tips on top fall beauty trends: The 80's are back (in a good way) and you'll be safety dancing (and killing radio stars) in Cyndi Lauper makeup and Grace Jones hair, as seen on the Fall 2009 runways at Marc Jacobs, Tibi, and Giorgio Armani.
You won't wear your hair down again, ever, as intricate buns and glamorous ponytails ruled the runways at shows like Max Azria and Carolina Herrera.
You won't be fully dressed for fall without a (big, red) smile, because flapper-era perfectly sculpted matte red lips are huge, perhaps due to the economic climate, says makeup artist Tom Pecheux: "It's true that women wear red lipstick during recessions," he said backstage at Isaac Mizrahi. "When you don't have enough money for a new outfit, handbag or shoes, you can still buy a new lipstick. But when you do spend the money, you want it to be impactful, and red lips change everything!"
And finally, gray will be your new black - it was the go-to color for eyes, nails, and even lips (yes, really), as we saw below at Rachel Roy's Fall 2009 presentation.

GREY SMOKY EYES
By far the "it" color of the season, grey is huge for eyes, nails and even lips. On the eyes, the look was smoky but diffuse; makeup artists blended together a few different shades of gray, or left off the liner for a truly different take on smoky.
At Michael Kors (pictured), makeup artist Dick Page went for a sooty, gunmetal gray on the upper lids, and rimmed the inside of the lower lash lines in black liner for extra contrast. At Richard Chai, makeup artist Gucci Westman created a mousy gray eye, mixing matte brown and steel gray shadows. And at J. Mendel, makeup artist Tanya Cropsey created what she called the "the modern smoky eye" by diffusing matte, dark gray shadow from the lash line to the crease, with no mascara or liner.

SUBVERSIVE LIPS
Many designers tossed pretty pouts to the wind, opting for grays, blacks, and even golds.
At Christian Siriano (upper right), makeup artist Polly Osmond used gold pigment on the models' lips. For mere mortals, she suggested applying a natural shade of lipstick and dabbing a little gold pigment on top. At Rodarte, (lower left) the lips stayed neutral (bordering on grim) in grayish nude. And at Tuleh, Osmond created a grayish mauve stain on the lips by layering black lipstick (new from M.A.C for fall) under a berry-tinged color. The overall effect was reminiscent of a faded photograph.

80's FLASHBACK MAKEUP
From neon brights to fishnet stockings, video killed the radio star all over again on the runways, with many designers conjuring up the bawdy 80's as escapism from the current recession.
Francois Nars indulged Marc Jacob's 80's nightclub inspired collection with bold, bright makeup (pictured) that channeled everything 80's, from The Palmer Girls to Girls Just Want Have Fun-era Cyndi Lauper to the cover of Duran Duran's Rio album. At Tibi, Makeup artist Makky did color-pop turquoise eyes. "The look is very Christy Turlington circa Vogue in the late 80's, said Makky. "When bright blue eye shadow was really in." To make the look very fresh and modern, and not too Barbie, he cut off the end of the eye color for a very graphic, square shape.

TOTALLY 80's HAIR
We saw plenty of big shoulders, power suits and legging prancing down the runways, topped off by deliciously 80's hair.
At Behnaz Sarafpour (right), hairstylist Ashley Javier created a squared-off pompadour that spliced early 80's Grace Jones glam with a dash of Blade Runner cyberpunk. "In trendy neighborhoods like London's SOHO and New York's Williamsburg, I feel like women are adding more grandeur to their day wear," said Javier. And at Richard Chai (left), hairstylist Kevin Ryan conjured up late 80's Tompkins Square Park, creating model-fied mohawks, with hair that was slicked back on the sides and teased at the top.

WONDER BUNS
The ultimate "safety style," fall's crop of buns are anything but. Using intricate twists and adornments galore, the bumming-around bun has become the glamorous style du jour.
At Max Azria (left), hair stylist Laurent Philippon created a tousled, twisted bun. "I wanted the hair to look tight but nothing too slick and finished," he said. "I wanted it to look very organic." At Carolina Herrera (right), Orlando Pita created ornately pinned buns -- studded with copper roses – to juxtapose the high collars shown on the runway. Dry conditioner was worked through the hair, which was pulled - not slicked - back.

KOHL RIMMED EYES
Maybe it's a sign of the times, but a tough-chic hardness was everywhere - even with designers famous for frilly frocks like Behnaz Sarafpour and Narciso Rodriguez. They added a razor-sharp edge to their runways with kohl lined eyes.
At Behnaz Sarafpour, makeup artist Gordon Espinet created black rimmed eyes, using "eyeliner from every direction." By smudging the lids with black liner and shadow, and leaving lips nude, the look was a little androgynous, a little punky, and played off the graphic clothing with natural ease. At Max Azria, Gucci Westman shined the kohl-rimmed eyes up with a dab of clear gloss on the lids. The look also ruled at Zac Posen, Richard Chai, Chris Benz and Narciso Rodriguez.

FLAPPER SMILES
You're never fully dressed without a (big, red) smile. Perfectly sculpted matte red lips were a hallmark of the late 20's, early 30's flapper era, and this season they're back. OK, so they've kinda been back for the past two falls, but now we finally have a link -1929 Depression, 2009 Recession.
At Isaac Mizrahi, makeup artist Tom Pecheux confirmed our suspicions said "It's true that women wear red lipstick during recessions," he said. "When you don't have enough money for a new outfit, handbag or shoes, you can still buy a new lipstick. But when you do spend the money, you want it to be impactful, and red lips change everything!"

PERKED-UP PONYTAILS
No more excuses for simply pulling your hair back. Fall's crop of modified ponies gives us easy tweaks to take your tail from pony to stallion.
Our favorite was spotted at J. Mendel, where Odile Gilbert created a crazy combination of ponytail and chignon. "From the front, the sides and the back it looks like different styles," Gibert noted. At Christian Siriano, Jon Reyman created a modified ponytail chignon to jive with the show's Egyptian inspiration. "We wanted a hair style that's bold, geometric, sculpted and strong."

The thing that I found most unattractive about my face as I got older were the dark circles under my eyes. I tried everything I could to get rid of them but nothing ever worked. I got tired of seeing all the scam ads on TV for skin care products that don't work so I started dong some research about my problem on the internet and I discovered that dark circles around and underneath eye area is not usually caused by a lack of sleep, instead the membrane in that area (a vascular rich zone) of skin is readily susceptible to discoloration (usually dark or pink). I found a great product ( Http://tiny.cc/AmazingEyes135 ) that contains Haloxyl which is a new ingredient combination that has shown great promise and results in lowering the darkness of color in the under eye area. This cream is natural based so no pore clogging ingredients like mineral oil will make the problem worse. The ingredients in this natural based skin care cream are all about stimulating the pooling blood in the area under and around the eyes. This is one of the main causes of dark circles.
The very thin and fine layers of skin are pumped full of skin thickening ingredients to help maximize the cell wall to decode the see through color for the skin in that area. It also helps to firm the skin around the eyes and reduce puffiness. Extremely good for a great all around look. Http://tiny.cc/AmazingEyes135 One of the reported side effects (there are only good side effects with this cream) is that puffiness and bags under the eyes are reduced in appearance drastically making this one of the best all around eyes cream in general not to mention for the afore mentioned problems.
As mentioned above the causes can vary a little but for most the same three causes of both under eye puffiness, bags under the eyes and of course dark circles are lack of blood flow, pooling blood, thinning or thin skin and leaking of blood in the very veinous tissue. All of these can be helped tremendously with the absolute best under eye treatment that includes peptides, skin thickeners and much more all in a natural base.

I was lucky enough to never have been overweight in my life. That all ended after the birth of my second child. I got down to 20 pounds over my normal weight but no matter what I did I couldn't lose the rest. I didn't know if was age catching up with me or if somehow my metabolism changed. Whatever the reason, nothing was working. I tried all the bogus "diet" pills that we see all over the internet, but are just scams. All I ever lost with that stuff was money. One of my friends, knowing what I was going through, told me that she had been losing weight using a special plan Http://tiny.cc/FatLoss217 It laid out the facts in a way I never saw before and had easy to follow meal plans and diets. Not only have I lost the weight and kept it off but I'm leading a healthier lifestyle, mostly from the knowledge I gained from this amazing program.

I heartily endorse this all natural product and recommend it to all my patients: Http://tinyurl.com/hairlossstop Almost 90% of patients using the formulation noted a complete arresting of their hair loss progression.
After researching the various treatment options available for androgenic alopecia, it is my opinion that only three classes of substances have been clinically proven to prevent and/or reverse hair loss: minoxidil, Super Oxide Dismutase, and the antiandrogens. I have reviewed recent studies of Provillus ( Http://tinyurl.com/hairlossstop ) and noted a very high success ratio. Almost 90% of patients using the formulation at the recommended dosage noted a complete arresting of their hair loss progression. Of these patients, 50% demonstrated an aesthetically meaningful change in the caliber of their hair. These are very positive findings indeed. After reviewing this research as well as clinical notes taken from patients followed at Advance Restoration Technologies, I am comfortable this formula presents an extremely safe track record in those using the product formulation at recommended dosage levels. These facts impressed me. Provillus is an exciting, new, naturally based, antiandrogen that has been added to our medical armamentarium for hair loss prophylaxis.

I have always been very afraid of aging, you know, becoming old and useless and unattractive. When I turned 50, I decided to do something about it. I've spent fortunes on face creams and anti-aging serums… but using GenFX is the first time I've tried turning back the clock from the inside out. It's also the last time I'll spend a fortune on face creams! Now everyone says I look 35!

What an imperative first sentence! "Stop Wearing Your Hair Down!" The fashion industry is disgusting and the women who allow themselves to be exploited by them are even more disgusting. Anna Wintour looks like a frozen vampire, for god's sakes, why in the world would anyone CARE what she thinks?!XX? I am naturally attractive; I wear the face and body that was handed to me and I've never had a problem attracting good, attractive people into my life (they reflect me, after all). So what's the matter with women? I use cocoa butter for my face as a moisturizer when I'm free on downtime, I use the same on my hands and feet and I bathe/shower daily and as needed...hee hee hee. I'm happy, attractive, healthy and people love my kids because they're wonderful, too. Average stress, yes, but not from worrying about my looks. My husband is a teddy bear who loves his family. And I'm not even born again, lol!

OMG! Please tell me this is a joke! I"m in my late 40's and girls didn't look like that in the 80's. These women looked like crap! I wouldn't kiss a girl with gray lips, it looks disgusting, and I thought black nail polish made their fingers and toes looked dirty. I loved the 80's looks, girls with long flowing hair, pink or red lipstick, and pink or red nail polish. I also miss nylons. No matter how hot your legs are nylons make them look sexier.

I have always been under the assumption that the purpose of fashion is to find new and exciting way to make people appear more attractive. If that is true, these new fashion trends are epic fails.

The purpose of trying to look more attractive is...wait for it...to actually attract, not to scare away. Anytime you see them basing new trends on those bizarro looking fashion models, just ignore it. It's some designer or group of designers just advertising. Completely unrealistic.

Our society has made us all beauty-stupid and tells us what beauty is rather than let beauty be in the eye of the beholder.
Not everyone can pull off red lipstick (especially if its flapper red, they wore true, bright red, since it was the only lip color available) and very, very few people can pull off BLACK lipstick-that color they show isn't grey. Also, constantly wearing hair up will break it no matter how well of care someone puts into it. Smokey eyes are beautiful...on the right eyes.
We shouldn't let the industry tell us what's in, what's not, who's beautiful... us women should work on finding a look that works for them and stick to it and stop being stupid, easily manipulated creatures.

Gray, that says it all. Gray, insipid, lifeless, just plain grim. If this is beauty then I want uglyness in my life. People have forgotten to be themselves.

Honestly, I have never met anyway who will wear make-up and clothes like they do on the runway. Why? Because it usually looks terrible and is too much for real life. It takes hours to achieve those looks, who has time for that? So why do fashion "trend" always have to follow the runway?
