With another day of torrential rain in Dallas, you can hardly blame me for counting the days until I return to my old home, Malibu- where the sun shines all year and casual style reigns supreme. Growing up in Southern California simple styling is in my blood, it is what undoubtedly inspired this look.

I'm lucky, I determine my own dress code and most days you'll find me in some version of denim. I've found that most places I go day-to-day in Dallas, or Los Angles for that matter, jeans (when styled appropriately) work just fine. Granted styling is crucial. The term "t-shirt and jeans" can be interpreted many different ways; but the reality is, denim and simple tees never go out of style. If you have a few of these staples in your wardrobe you can add trend pieces, funky accessories and my favorite-fabulous shoes- to create your own fashion statement.

In this look, I started with a simple denim jean and a white long-sleeve tee. I then added my trademark gold bracelets, a studded cuff, a classic structured handbag and a vintage fur vest. What completed the look is the true statement piece in the outfit, a stunning pair of studded, grey suede Prada booties from BlueFly.com.

When styling this look I drew my inspiration from the appeal of understated opulence you see when strolling along in the Malibu Country Mart or in snapshots of Malibu celebs you see on the pages of StyleList.com. The women in jeans and tees who somehow exude an elegance not attainable with even designer suits and pearls. Upon closer inspection you'll see it's this styling of simple jewelry, a classic handbag, a trend piece and a pair of fabulous shoes that take their denim and tee to a whole new level.
