With high-waisted briefs being the revealing garment du jour -- evidenced by Kate Hudson, Natalie Portman, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Shakira and more -- it's clear innerwear is the new outerwear.

So, it was only natural that chronic thigh flashers Beyoncé and Katy Perry decided to kick it up a notch at the MTV Europe Awards in Berlin and accessorize their panties with garters -- a trend that we noticed picking up steam a few weeks ago.

Perry, the show's hostess for the second year in a row, had a dozen costume changes (many in the glittery bra and underwear genre, of course).

Perhaps the singer's most modest getup was a red velvet tuxedo blazer thrown over a boudoir-worthy number and paired with red tights featuring painted on black garters and pin-striped thigh-highs.

Beyoncé, on the other hand, limited herself to a mere four outfits -- a metallic hourglass Versace mermaid dress for the red carpet, an edgy metal-adorned David Koma LBD to receive her three awards (Best Song, Best Video, Best Female Artist), a crystal-studded off-the-shoulder frock to kick it with husband Jay-Z at an afterparty and a feisty performance outfit that left little to the imagination.

The latter, worn to sing her current hit "Sweet Dreams," consisted of a strapless ruched Agent Provocateur bodysuit, long fingerless gloves and red garters holding up scarlet-trimmed thigh-highs.

The only constant in all of Beyoncé's ensembles was her gigantic Lorraine Schwartz wedding ring which she wore throughout the night.

So, what do you think of this new super-revealing trend highlighting the thigh: is it best left for the bedroom or is it made for the stage?
