Especially when they serve up bon mots like: "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels," which, Kate Moss (he epitome of waif), admitted was her motto in a recent interview with WWD.
Now, Moss -- last seen teaching eight-year-olds how to model -- is being slammed by eating disorder experts who feel that her comments were "pro-anorexia," Reuters reports.
The model's slogan of choice has been featured on pro-anorexia Websites -- to the dismay of eating disorder organizations like Beat.
"It's one that's used so prominently and so obviously in connection with pro-anorexic websites," Susan Ringwood, Beat's chief executive, told Reuters.
"We know she is a person who young people look up to, she's such a style icon, they are very interested in her life, they follow all the details of it.
"So for her to even inadvertently legitimize something that could be potentially so harmful is regrettable," Ringwood adds.
Um, Kate... how's that foot taste?

That motto has been said and used across this country in weight loss groups and facilities everywhere. While no one should be for the promotion of anorexia, we should be a little more discerning about what we let get under out skin.

Heck...I am a guy; 5'10" around 200 lbs and I like beer, football, and eating wings at thelocal "wing house". Do you really think I will listen to the babblings of a moronic model who most likely has the education of a 12th grader? Hmmmm. NOT!
clint969 11-20-2009 @ 2:19PM
AMEN to that. Let this get under your skin instead: Last I heard obesity was the #1 health problem in America, not anorexia. It's her JOB to look like that. It's what she gets paid for. And I wish there were more people telling slovenly Americans to stop stuffing their self righteous faces. I'm sick of lazy assed Americans campaigning to make "fat" OK. If you're 5' 8" and 200 Lbs, unless it's muscle, you're FAT and it's not OK. Stop stuffing your lazy face and take a walk. Why should their lack of effort be rewarded with validation?
To those with valid medical conditions, I offer my sincerest apology for any offense. I'm most certainly not talking about you.
Just the couch camping, McDonald's gorging, LAZY, LAZY masses that are becoming the world's definition of "American".

That's ridiculous. You know what? Nothing tastes as good as a piece of freaking cake.
Real women have curves. I'm 5'8" and 135 pounds, and I'm FINE with that.

LOL Whitney! I like my curves...much more than I like denying myself a bit of pasta or cheese. My DH loves my curves as well and that's all that matters. I don't care what a has been like Kate moss thinks. Seriously, what is she most famous for recently? Being an addict.
Bottom line? I think we all need to be more secure in who we are as an individual and not care what other people say about us. Because in the long run it really doesn't matter what they say.

Actually Whitney, at 5'8" and 135lbs, your BMI is 20.5. That puts you below the 50th percentile for body mass index. If you or anyone around you considers you overweight, they are delusional. If you don't like your current body proportions, it has nothing to do with your weight.
Melissa 11-20-2009 @ 2:27PM
5'8" and 135lbs is THIN... I am 5'7 1/2" and weigh 153 and I am in no way fat. I am in good shape and you're right Whitney REAL WOMEN DO HAVE CURVES. I love my curves...
BlazingPhoenix83 11-20-2009 @ 7:18AM
I'm 5'6" 140lbs with two kids and loving it! I'm so tired of these people and their idealistic crap! If you want to hula hoop with a cheerio go ahead! No one I have ever been with has complained and quite frankly I don't think making love to a bag of bones or hugging someone and immediately feeling their ribs can be a good feeling even if the other person won't say it. Self esteem is the sexiest and the ugliest thing there is ...that's what the world needs to realize and find out where you are.

Whitney, 5' 8" is something to be fine WITH! LOL!! You say that like its overweight or something. Those numbers sound good to me.
I think, as with anything else in the media, sensationalism is the order of the day here. Regardless of what some group or another may say on their website, the woman used a phrase within the context of the discussion. Has nothing to do with anorexia.

Oh good grief!!! These people need to get a freakin' grip. It's no worse than the old "A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips" thing. I'm fat and I wasn't offended.
It's a miracle any celebrity gives interviews anymore. Their words are twisted and taken out of context and stupid stuff like this happens.
*shakes head*

Wow. Although I understand the comment, Whitney's comment is great. Nothing tastes better than a freakin' piece of cake. My words: Chocolate, and at least one piece a day. I'm almost 5'8", weigh high 120's - same as I did as a senior in high school years ago, which ranks as "slim" at that height. Skinny is okay, if one does eat enough. But not the supermodel starvation look. There's nothing glamorous about that.

I'm someone who has battled anorexia since high school. Her comments seem ignorant, but to actually get on the defensive about it, really? When I started down this path, I can tell you that it had nothing to do with celebrities and their comments. My battle has everything to do with self esteem. Why don't we spend more time on the positive messages out there instead of posting the uneducated comments of a super model that has more than enough of her own probelms.

Maybe it's a good thing. Look at the average flock of highschool kids walking around today and about a third of them are allready carrying around weight that is gonna cut years off their lives. It did NOT used to be that way. I remember not long ago, one of my sons highschool age friends was looking through my wifes old yearbook. After about 15 minutes of looking at the pictures, he said "Hey, Where are all the fat kids?!?" True story.

I've noticed the same thing. I think what she said was blown way out of proportion and a majority of today's kids are too overweight. I see them with the spare tire and muffin top, these are girls in their late teens, early twenties! This isn't baby fat anymore..I live in a city where there is a fast food place on every corner along with a bunch of convenience stores that sell high fat, carb type junk. The high school down the road is across the street from a Jack in the Box and after school lets out, they all go hang out at Jack in the Box or the Taco Bell that's next to it.
Every single one of them, boys and girls, are huge. What happened to after school athletics? I think they all just hang out in front of the tv, computer way too much anymore and nobody gets the right amount of exercise. To be that young and carry around that much weight is not healthy at all. The older you get the harder it is to lose. I have never been overweight but never been "anorexic" either. I don't think her comment was offensive, some of these groups need to get a grip and relax..if she had said something like advocating throwing up her meals then that's different but saying what she said is not. I think it's true, it does feel good to be thin. How does it feel to walk a mile home from school, huffing and puffing all the way? Or walking anywhere carrying all that exra weight? Big difference between being thin and anorexic, anorexia is a control issue, these people have issues that may not have anything to do with their looks..it's about control when their lives spin out of control.

I agree. It wasn't like that when I was growing up either. I had a small potbelly and I WAS considered 1 of 4 'fat' kids in our school. The size was still nothing like the obesity we have today. I blame it on the lack of homecooked, sitdown family meals (which fast food can not even touch taste-wise), the overmedicated zombification of our children so they will be 'socially acceptable', and the lack of enforcing P.E. in schools (we used to have 4 years in HS... not 2!).
PARENTS: Tell your kids to log out, go outside and play. I have 5 kids and none of them are fat... or skinny for that matter.
BTW: NOTHING tastes as good as Mam's homemade toritillas. YEAH!
Have a good weekend all,
Michael Roy

I don't see a problem with her comment. Maybe if more people thought that way obesity wouldn't be killing so many people!!

Exactly. Did anyone see the story posted just yesterday how 30 or 40% of Americans will be obese within a few years?
Shannon 11-20-2009 @ 8:41AM
I agree that to me it just sounds like a motto of motivation to stay in shape/lose weight. I read this tip in a magazine saying to cut out pictures of models or a bikini and post them all over your fridge so you think before you go in and grab a snack blankly and over indulge. We all also have different definitions of skinny, I think to most of us the word skinny has come to mean "our desired weight". one woman's skinny jeans will be another woman's fat jeans. To me I am skinny when I fit inside my size 4 jeans and yes it feels great to know you look good and feel happy with youself, and I am fat when I go up to size 6. Remember we all have different body types so sizes look different on other people as well. A woman who may wear a 6 now may look skinnier than me because perhaps she is taller. I am short and a lot of my weight tends to accumulate on my hips, butt, and thighs so I will look like I wear a bigger size. I also do not think it is right to attack women for being rail thin and assuming they are anorexic. I have a co-worker who is a size 00 and she is desperately trying to gain weight but just can't. She walks around eating burgers and coca colas while I eat salad and diet coke and our bodies look like we do the opposite. Every woman should just love her body for what it is ( I know that is a tall order to fill for some) and if there is something you can change to make you happier then do it, and learn to love and accept the things you can't change because there is no use crying and getting upset for something that just won't happen.

Oh for Heaven's sake! That phrase was used by a major diet company several years ago as a tagline for a series of TV ads (I think it was Weight Watchers but if not then someone equally prominent). It's a great line and something I say to myself to snap myself out of eating something I shouldn't. People really have to grow a thicker skin - I'm as PC as all get out but this was clearly not a "pro-annorexia" statment! We are creating a nation of crybabies!
