A cosmetic procedure to have her buttocks sculpted has ended in tragedy for a model and former beauty queen.

Solange Magnano, who won the title of Miss Argentina in 1994, died Sunday at the age of 38 following complications from a gluteoplasty procedure, Sky News reports.

The procedure -- which inserts implants into the buttocks to make them more shapely -- took a nasty turn when a liquid injection reportedly made its way to Magnano's lungs and brain, according to the news agency (though StyleList's plastic surgery experts are questioning the validity of this detail, stating that it "sounds made up by someone unfamiliar with the surgery.").

What's definite is that Magnano was rushed to the hospital with a pulmonary embolism -- in which a blood clot blocks blood flow to the lungs -- and passed away two days later.

"She only underwent the procedure because she thought it was no big deal," friend Guillermo Azar told Sky.

Magnano, who reportedly leaves behind a husband and eight-year-old twins, is said to have undergone the procedure at a plastic surgery clinic in Buenos Aires, causing some sources to speculate to Sky that her surgeon was not a professional.

A Facebook group has been created in tribute to the beauty.

"A woman who had everything lost her life to have a slightly firmer behind," fashion designer and friend Roberto Piazza, told the Daily Mail, adding that Magnano had enjoyed a glamorous career but had lately become obsessed with maintaining her looks.

'In 1994 she participated in Miss Universe," Piazza told the paper. "She was very successful around the world, she worked a lot in Paris."

According to Piazza, Magnano returned to Argentina, where she married and raised her young twin daughters in Cordoba. He says she began to miss her old modeling life, which sparked a fascination with plastic surgery.

Piazza also told the paper that Manano had her breasts lifted and sought out the gluteoplasty in order to remove cellulite and firm up her bottom.

"She died because of her obsession with beauty," he told the source.

At the time of her death, Magnano, who was buried yesterday in San Francisco, Argentina, had reportedly launched her own modeling agency, Actitud Models.

Meanwhile, plastic surgery is booming in Venezuela in response to the recession.
