Last night, at a fashionable gallery in downtown Manhattan shrouded in pink, Sephora debuted its latest exclusive collection -- Sephora Presents Tarina Tarantino, a makeup line created by accessories designer Tarina Tarantino.

Famous for her whimsical designs, optimistic outlook and shocking pink locks, Tarantino applied her sparkly sensibilities to a line of 13 products for the beauty retailer, launching in store and online in February 2010.

Tarina Tarantino is the first launch under the "Sephora Presents" umbrella, an initiative that the company believes will redefine the beauty landscape by giving a voice to unique brands that fall outside of the traditional beauty mold.

"Tarina's lifestyle transcends into her jewelry and into her makeup line," Margarita Arriagada, Sephora's Senior Vice President of Merchandising, told StyleList before introducing Tarantino to the crowd of editors. "We're excited to bring serious cosmetics to the market from someone who really understands beauty. Tarina is it; this is what she lives and breathes every single day."

A former model, Tarantino was a makeup artist for M.A.C Cosmetics before delving into the sparkling jewelry she is known for. "Fourteen years ago, when I started my accessories brand I had to give up a career that I loved," said Tarantino. "I really fell in love with beauty."

She created her Sephora line to fill gaps she saw on the shelves. "This collection is made of the formulations I've dreamed of having, and the products I want but can't find in the marketplace."

The full face collection features items for the face, eyes, lips and cheeks in a wide range of colors and finishes. High pigment, pressed Eye Dream Hypershadow eye shadow, $19 is available in 24 shades. Dollskin Powder, $32, has micronized particles for an imperceptibly perfect finish.

On the innovation front, our personal favorite product is Sparklecity Shimmer Dust, which packs airy shimmer into a glamorous, old-fashioned perfume atomizer; when spritzed it skims the skin and hair with a flirty dusting of sparkles.
