The following Macy's outposts will be shuttered: Downtown Boise, ID; Summit Place Mall, Waterford, MI; Northwest Plaza, St. Ann, MO; Downtown Missoula, MT; and Burlington Center Mall, Burlington, NJ.
"We are committed to maintaining a healthy portfolio of stores, which requires us to make the difficult decision to close some stores that no longer meet our performance requirements," Terry J. Lundgren, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Macy's, Inc., said in a release.
"The decision to close stores is difficult, and often occurs when the market changes, new competing shopping centers are opened nearby to existing older ones, or when customers change shopping habits. In the store closing process, we are committed to treating affected associates with respect and openness," Lundgren said.
These closures will affect more than 300 employees who may be offered positions in nearby stores or receive severance benefits and outplacement assistance.
In 2009, Macy's opened five new Macy's stores. In 2010, Macy's, Inc. currently expects to open new Bloomingdale's stores in Santa Monica, CA, and Dubai (its first international location).
For shoppers, however, this gray cloud of bad news does have a silver lining. Final clearance sales at these stores will start on Sunday, Jan. 10 and run for a whopping two months.

I am glad that Macy's is being hit hard. It is sad that some people can't shop at Macy's without being followed throughout their stores by security. I shopped at Hecht's/Macy's for 20 years and stopped because of their profiling and discriminating actions.

Who cares if Macy's close. Close all your stores. Your made-in-China trashy closthes are not worth the price.
Go bankrupt!

Macy's has become the new Target of clothing stores. Not too many years ago Macy's stood for being a premium clothing store providing superior service but in the last several years Macy's has become nothing more than a mall outlet store with revolving sales to nowhere.
I hope Sak's 5th Ave. and Bloomingdales doesn't follow in their lead.
Good bye Macy's and reduce your inventory of more stores.

I've noticed Macy's unending advertising streak. That's what they need to do to convince people to buy all their now cheap Chinese goods. I fell for their coupon campaign and ened up with a piece of "fine jewelry" "made in China," a flawed cultured pearl with a flawed diamond that I returned. Now is such a good time for American's to wake up, realize the power we have through purchase and boycott goods made in China and the stores who carry such goods. MACY'S - Made at China You Suck!

Clothing in every store is pathetic. What happened to quality? I'm sick of inferior Chineese clothing. Ralph Lauren use to produce quality items but not anymore. You might as well shop at Wal-Mart. It's all the same!!!!!

They need to close down the one in Austin, Texas. It looks just like Foleys and I see nothing special about this store but the name.

Macy's should close all there store's. Everything they sell is junk. Once they took the Marshall Field's name away so did the merchandise. I only fell sorry for their employees.

Macy's ,as you can recall, does the new york thanksgiving day parade, and everyone thinks that they are such a generous company.... What a lie that has been bestowed the public..They treat their workers like garbage, and if you do not open charges within the month ,you will not get their wonderderful 5 cent raise an hour...... Better yet for their christmas party ,they will charge their workers 35 to 45 dollars to attend, yet they will spend thousands on their parade .......They are why union's came into being...... They are horrible too their own hard workers, and are just about "IMAGE".......

You would think that retailers like Macy's would actually go back a few years when they actually provided good customer service in the store. I think that american consumers have been treated very badly. Merchandise is inferior yet the prices remain higher. I'm sick of chinese produced clothing with designer labels. These products may be counterfeit , but who would know since they are sold in large retail stores and the prices do not reflect the cheap labor used. I hope that American companies wake up and realize that American comsumers brought them up and and can bring them down!

Macy's laid me off, along with 7,000 other employees, last year as part of a corporate restructuring. Please do no shop there!!
