Color-Block Hair & Gray Streaks: Couture Hair Gets Whimsical

Up through Fall 2009 we saw a lot of "safe" hair on the runway, and maybe it has something to do with the recession and reflecting an overall conservative mood.
Ponytails, side parts and ballerina buns are perfectly appropriate for networking parties and job interviews.
So perhaps it's because of the first signs of recovery (we hope!) or just that fact that people are ready for some mood-lightening whimsy, but this year's Haute Couture Spring 2010 shows are giving a glimpse into fantasy -- at least where hair is concerned.
First up -- color-block Crayola hair at Alexis Mabille.
Two-toned blue/brown hair isn't exactly everyday appropriate (although we're sure Lady Gaga could pull it off), it sure looks cool on the runway.
Colorful streaks have also been popping up here and there. As seen at the Spring 2010 Proenza Schouler show (green and purple streaky hair) and on Ashley Olsen at the MoMA's November Tim Burton tribute. Ashley's were on the subtle side -- you really had to be up close to notice the blue and purple among her usual blond.
Where have we seen all this before? Oh yeah -- the 80s! Cyndi Lauper, Boy George, Rainbow Brite's horse Starlite, etc, etc. First 80s makeup and now 80s hair; it was inevitable!
Number two -- fanciful gray streaks in Marie Antoinette-esque wigs at Chanel Couture.
Back in December we reported on girls like 19-year-old Pixie Geldof going gray (on purpose!) and fashion shows from Gareth Pugh and Giles Deacon where models paraded down the runway with gray strands.
But to us the girls' hair looked matte, stringy and kind of scary.
Dare we say the gray streaks at Chanel actually look fresh and fun? Is that possible? Maybe it's the big heart-shaped bouffant in the back, or the straight, shiny bangs, or perhaps it's because of the delightful, antique-looking, slightly tattered headpieces but this almost (almost!) makes us want to have gray streaks of our own.
On another gray note -- 13-year-old blogging phenom Tavi was recently spotted front row at the Dior Couture show sporting gray hair (and an enormous bow hat).
Not into statement-making hair? Try out Spring 2010's bold makeup colors -- they require less commitment!

Shockingly, shocks of gray hair are becoming the must-have look of the season. Photo: Getty Images

Daily Dose of Style is back in full swing and ready to tackle on new fashion dilemmas, season standouts and much more! Today, let's take on a personal issue of mine. The problem: I'm in a wardrobe rut and have been for the past several weeks. You ever have those periods of time where you hate everything in your closet, or absolutely bored of it? Ugh! And since I'm still recovering from my holiday spending (ahem, over-spending), I can't just splurge on new clothes to solve my apparel angst. The solution: Layering! Playing with layers can produce outfits for you that feel totally new. I have to admit I haven't mastered this form of art yet. I need to schedule some playtime in my closet in fact. Look below. This is what I'm taking about. Topping your old dress with a cardigan, vest and scarf updates a once-drab dress... and makes the outfit all the more interesting! How do you layer? Tell me below! Stay tuned by the way for voguetouch Shopping's Guide to Layering coming in February!

Those wigs have been used for a while on the cat walk. Look back at shows in Paris or Milan! It may be news here in the US, but not anywhere else LOL

Yeah, let's all run out get us some of those. No, not really. No....
Even the girls in the pictures are visibly telling themselves "It's only a job, the money is good. Please let me be done soon."

Guys...
You need to wake up !
The first three pics - the colored hair is sewn in ???? DUH !
What you call Marie Antoinette grey, we call - silvery streaks in combination with the hair piece and outfit !
Maybe this Journo, needs to research Fashion Styling ?
You take away from what the show is about ! ( Clothes - New Designs )
And go straight to the juggernaut ....
You treat us readers like fools.

Wigs and extensions have always been on the runways. How is it new?
And Tavi's hair is icy blue, not grey?
