Now, the classic American outfitter, currently available only in North America and Japan, has entered into an agreement with Net-A-Porter to be sold globally starting in May.
The deal came about six months ago when J.Crew creative director Jenna Lyons and CEO Mickey Drexler flew to London to meet with Net-A-Porter founder and chair Natalie Massenet and her team.
"We were so completely blown away," Lyons tells StyleList. "The site is incredibly beautiful and their presentation is the best around."
Massenet and her buying director Holli Rogers then made the reciprocal trip to New York. "They came to us, saw the collection and picked a ton of things... shoes, belts, jewelry, dresses, wedding dresses and even our knits," Lyons says. "It was interesting to watch Natalie and Holli together. It was really a great experience."
This is the first time J.Crew has been sold at the wholesale level. "We're not capable of shipping outside of the United States," Lyons explains. "We have received an overwhelming request from our customers to be available overseas."
And Net-A-Porter's Massenet added, "With our speedy delivery, this means that customers in Norway, the Philippines, New Zealand and South Africa can be decked out in J.Crew within a matter of days, while customers in London and Manhattan can receive items the same day."
Earlier this year, J. Crew's CEO Millard "Mickey" Drexler said the company's internet sales account for about 28 percent of its total. We're betting this number is about to go way up!

This article confuses me. JCREW has been shipping to Canada for years - since the 90's in fact. I have been ordering online for a long time. So while the empire will be expanding into the UK/EU Canada already loves JCREW. In fact it is rumored that we will be getting free standing stores in the near future.

It's Garmentos vs Hondurans, Guatamalans, Panamanians and many English speaking patrons of Dubrows, Katzes, The Stage, Ratners and 38 guys named Shelly, Sheldon or Shecky, plus Henry Waxman, this year's winner of the annual
"Keeping Anti-Semitism Alive Award". Last year's winner, Chuck Schumer, made the presentation, in between press conferences.
