As Sandra Bullock's beauty team prepared her for the Los Angeles premiere of "The Change-Up," her hairstylist decided to take a risk. Instead of turning his curling iron completely around her brunette locks, David Babaii perfected a half-moon curl that resulted in a modern take on the '70s shag.

The Couture Colour brand ambassador tells Stylelist that the lunar phase inspired him to give bend and body to Bullock's hair.

"With this look it’s about taking random sections of the hair," Babaii says. "You can go in any direction."

We've also spotted C-shaped curls on pretty young things like Ciara and Lea Michele, backstage at Charlotte Ronson's Fall 2011 fashion show and on the streets of Stockholm as worn by Lithuanian model Edita Vilkeviciute.

Babaii has three simple steps to recreate this look at home:
1. Apply Couture Colour Pequi Oil Treatment to dry hair. If your texture is naturally curly, use a blow dryer to straighten strands just manageable enough to go in and style.
2. Create a center part, take random sections of hair and half-curl from the center (leaving the top and ends free) around a 2 1/2 to 3-inch barrel curling iron.
3. Finish with an additional touch of Pequi Oil to add long-lasting shine.

Wielding a hot hair tool can be a bit intimidating, but the pro stylist encourages you to get comfortable in front of a mirror before tackling this 'do.

"Using a curling iron is actually easier than curling the entire head because it’s about creating a look that’s more effortless," says Babaii. "

No one 'invented' this - it's just a slight wave.

Curls? Those are waves....that is wavy hair, not curly hair. Not even very wavy, barely wavy. Good grief.
