The Unexpected Icon: Shelley Duvall in "3 Women"
There is a quirky, almost eery glamour to Shelley Duvall's character in Robert Altman's "3 Women." The 1977 comedy-drama-horror movie (which also stars Sissy Spacek and Janice Rule) follows three very different women who begin to take on each other's personalities until they finally transform into the identity they had been searching for all along. The story was actually based on one of Altman's dreams, hence the trance-like quality and minimal plotlines.
This week we're channeling Duvall's Millie Lammoreaux, a wide-eyed, chatty, ditzy loner with an affinity for rust-colored makeup, super 70s bobbed hair and a deep tan. The California desert setting also lends to the faded, coppery-brown palette seen throughout the film.
