Doutzen Kroes: Just Asking

HuffPost Social Reading

Doutzen Kroes is bringing the term "supermodel" back into style. The Victoria's Secret angel and magazine cover girl has one of the most sought after faces (and bodies) in fashion, and after walking down the Prada runway last year, she's definitely on the high-style radar as of late.

We got a chance to chat with Doutzen about everything from her favorite house music (her hubby is a DJ after all), to her personal beauty routine. Check out our full Q&A below.

What's your guilty pleasure music?
House Music, especially Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano: TriBeCa, Funkagenda & Mark Knight: Man With The Red Face, and Dennis Ferrer: The Red Room.

If you could only shop in one store for the rest of your life?
Azzedine Alaïa and Victoria’s Secret for lingerie. I love both and could spend hours there.

Can you tell us about your jump rope workout? We hear that’s how you stay in such great shape!
I actually am not jumping rope at the moment. My schedule has been so busy, so I try and run along the Hudson River or do yoga. I do those things whenever I have some free time.

If you were a DJ what would your stage name be?
MissDK

If you could be any literary character, who would you be?
I love Scarlett O’Hara from "Gone With the Wind." She’s beautiful, strong and independent—especially for her time.

If you could have one super power what would it be?
To be invisible!

Who would be your ideal shopping buddy from history?
Grace Kelly—she was a classic beauty, and her style was elegant and timeless.

Most embarrassing outfit you have ever worn/deepest fashion regrets?
When I was younger I wore my socks over my jeans!

What's one thing few people know about you?
I’m a total tomboy at heart.

What was the last song you downloaded?
“Watch the Throne” by Jay-Z and Kanye West

What are you reading right now?
Because I travel so much, I tend to grab magazines at the airport—Vogue is my go-to and I love the New York Times app for my ipad.

What’s the last thing you bought that you loved?
My ipad.

What was your first designer purchase?
My Marc Jacobs purse.

What item do you wear every day?
I don’t leave home without my engagement ring and wedding band!

If you had to wear clothes from one decade only, what would it be?
I think women in this decade are so lucky! There are so many choices—you can be totally glamorous in couture one day, and the next day you can leave your house in boyfriend jeans and sneakers. It’s fantastic that we have so many options. I definitely appreciate it more after being on set for Nova Zembla—because it takes place in the 16th century, my costumes were absolutely gorgeous, but I can’t imagine how women did it. The fabrics they wore were so heavy, and it must have been so uncomfortable to wear day-to-day!

What's your ideal summer vacation destination?
Ibiza!!!!

What was your first job/internship?
I worked at a bed and breakfast and did everything—cleaning, making the beds and cooking.

What’s your signature scent?
I like to change it up—right now my husband loves Viktor and Rolf’s FlowerBomb, so I’ve been wearing that.

What are three adjectives to describe your style?
Stylish (but not too trendy), diverse, comfortable

What are your rules to dress by?
I try to always be myself—wear the clothes, don’t let them wear you. As long as my look is appropriate for the occasion, I go with my instincts!

What are trends that you hope die?
Men that wear shorts with white socks and sneakers

Mojito or Margarita?
Neither— caipirinha! It’s a Brazilian drink with cachaça (sugar cane rum), sugar, and lime

Facebook or twitter?
I’m active on both, but I love twitter—follow me @doutzen!!

Minis or Maxis?
Minis

Kindle or book?
Books

Skittles or M&Ms?
M&Ms

What is in your handbag?
I always have lipgloss, lipbalm, my iPhone and my passport

First passport stamp?
New York City, USA

Time spent applying makeup each day?
I don’t spend a lot of time on my makeup at all, but when I go out I always wear mascara and lipstick (L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Star Secrets lipstick - in “Doutzen Blush” of course!)

I'm a guy, but if I were Doutzen, I'd go be a nurse and work with elderly people, or at a hospital. It'd be a dirty stressful job, but imagine all the lives that would be made better. A lot of the people would probably live longer. She looks like a good motherly type, and she's had experience in hospitality like she said... but I digress.
