Solange Knowles On DIY Fails And Bad Bling

Gerlan Jeans presented its "Mall Witch" spring collection, which saw models dressed as goth club kids with punky Manic Panic hair and irreverent "F*ck off" bracelets. The show managed to make Nickelodeon-esque slime look chic with a Day-Glo green pièce de résistance, and fittingly, closed to Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation."
Seated in the front row were Prabal Gurung collaborator Rye Rye and footwear enthusiast Solange Knowles. We congratulated Solange on big sis Beyonce's baby news, and talked fashion for a few moments.
What shows are you most excited to see this week?
Definitely Gerlan. I'm a a big fan of the line and I know her -- she's a great friend of mine. We have the same hairstylist -- Chuck Amos, who does my hair, does all of her shows. So, I got a sneak peek of the looks. I'm also excited to see Duro Olowu.
What's your rule to dress by?
What I feel comfortable in, and what I feel is a good interpretation of how I feel that day.
What trend do you wish would die?
I'm kind of really over anything blingy, rhinestone-y, really '90s in a bad way.
Do you have any fashion regrets?
Absolutely, more than I can count. During my teenage years, I put stuff on without looking twice. Sometimes I wish I would've looked in the mirror before walking out. There was an awards show where I decided it would be cool to make a T-shirt into a tube top. I cut a Gap Kids T-shirt and safety-pinned it together. It was very unfortunate.
