Backstage Beauty: Stick-Straight Hair & Major Brows At Altuzarra Spring 2012

The inspiration: A 50s meets 90s mashup of dramatic brows and pin-straight hair.

Makeup: Tom Pecheux called this exaggerated, overdrawn look "Elizabeth Taylor at the gym." With an angled brush dipped in MAC Eyeshadow in Carbon, Pecheux heavily lined the brows. "It's like a 50's brow," he says of the thick black graphic shape. The rest of the face was kept simple, matte foundation and a touch of MAC Transparent Gloss on the lids. No mascara, no liner, no lips. In other words, what Pecheux calls "a beauty diet!"

Hair: Frekkai lead stylist Paul Hanlon wanted the hair to have a 90s, Helmut Lang, David Sims feel. "Like a clean version of grunge," he says of the stick straight, razored style. "Like a lot of the models at that time, they always had a right part, their hair was always in their left eye." Hanlon started by adding in tracks of extensions, which were then shaped with a razor. He worked in Fekkai Full Volume Mousse to the front section -- before blowing it dry -- to ensure those pieces would remain flat. He finished the style with Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray.

Nails: CND manicurist Candice Manacchio applied one coat of CND Putty (a sheer nude), followed by a coat of Super Matte Polish. "Second skin," says Manacchio.

Only one picture? I had to go hunting for more: http://www.fashionologie.com/Altuzarra-Spring-2012-19035646?page=0,0,0#0 The clothes really weren't bad aside from that horrible printed jump suit. As for the hair and makeup, the dark eyebrows coupled with hair that was so flat ironed and piled on with products made them all look dirty and greasy. Just about every model there looked in severe need a bath. I had to look through the stills twice because the eyebrows were so distracting. One pass through the pictures to notice everyone's caricature eyebrows, the second time to see the clothes, which were actually nice.

this is the coolest makeup trend invented for those who have shaved off eyebrows that wont grow back.. mine are very thin and i wouldnt mind trying them myself. there always inventing something new with makeup like tattoing on eyeliner but where are all the colors that would be even fablous glow in the dark or florenceses or even glitter ones. hurry inventers get a move on the new eyelashes are cool to ones that look like feathers only porblem is you can never find them in stores or i dont see them nowhere but only on models or magazines when are they avaviable for the public use

LOL - the brows remind me of Groucho Marx's mustache

As soon as I saw the brows, my first thought, too, was they're channeling Groucho Marx. They got the brows right and all they need is the mustache. These hideous eyebrows in no way remind me of any 50's actress, least of all, Elizabeth Taylor whose dark brows looked natural. Even Joan Crawford, who went with the darker brows when she was older, never had such freakish brows.

There is absolutely nothing attractive about this look. Well, unless you're trying out new looks for Halloween. 'Cause it's like next month. And you gotta be prepared. But, maybe a mask would LOOK better. Just sayin'.
