Nicole Richie: Style Evolution, From Bad Girl To Boho Babe (PHOTOS)

HuffPost Social Reading

Nicole Richie's luxe boho style has inspired many trends. With a little help from celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe (the two no longer work together) Richie's oversized shades, kimono jackets and long, flowy maxi dresses have helped create her signature haute hippie look.

As the mother of two celebrates her 30th birthday, we pay homage to the socialite's evolving style. From revealing hemlines to floor-length gowns, the wife of Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden has left behind her bad girl ways for a more sophisticated approach to dressing.

Here's to many more years of denim shorts worn over tights, layered gold jewelry and ever-changing hairstyles!

The picture of them where her mother is wearing a wedding gown (2nd pic I think) she looks like Gia Giudicci

Is it just me or did she get.... lighter.... as she got older? When she was young, her skin was sort of a mocha color, now she seems much paler. Don't get me wrong, she's still cute in that bored, spoiled heiress sort of way, she just looks different.

Beach vacations were my favorite types as a little girl ... still are to this day

Her head is too big for her body, and she looks anorexic.

Perhaps bulimic; there are some pictures where she seems to be carrying a healthy weight. The other poster's also right--somehow a little black girl grew up to be a white woman. (Then again, that's an interesting lesson to think about--how much difference is there really between the supposed races.)

Definitely agree about the color as I said above. The differences are very superficial (and genetic in some ways), but people and people regardless of all that.

I meant people are people.

As a child of the 1960's and 1970's, I can't really criticize any of Nicole's fashions. I wore mini-skirts and go-go boots. Her fashions are not much different.

Can she be hired as a Halloween skeleton prop for parties?

I am unique, just like everyone else.

I saw her at Beverly Center a while back...she is teeny, tiny....92 lbs IS healthy for how short she is...and she's beautiful!
12:32 PM on 09/21/2011

Well, if she were a midget....92 lbs would be obese.
02:02 PM on 09/21/2011
I agree. I knew a girl in college who was the same height as NR, and I could easily pick her up in my arms. She was 95 lbs, and I know she was not anorexic.
11:31 AM on 09/21/2011
Nicole eat a sandwich.Regardless of what your Hollywood pals tell you, 92 lbs is not a healthy weight.
12:32 PM on 09/21/2011
You can be small and be healthy. I am 58 years old, 5'3" tall, and I am wavering between 100 and 105 lbs and I am considered healthy by my doctor. Skinny does not mean unhealthy.
01:04 PM on 09/21/2011
so you weigh about 10 lbs more then Richie, big difference.

What does Nicole Richie do? How much longer can she live off of her step fathers name (who had no hand in rearing her at all) In that photo above Nicole is asking "who is this guy holding me? "...Nicole do something or go away.

We talk about the difference in Nicole Richie - it's called growing up. She surprised us with being a good mom, wife, and person. She just grew up. I like the dress but the very top bow could be a bit smaller and I would have done her hair a bit different - but I think she looks good.

Blessing to her family - those children are precious.

She is famous for being adopted by someone famous, partying with someone famous and marrying someone famous. She is a beauty.
10:19 AM on 09/21/2011
The story is she was adopted by Lionel Richie. But of course Hollywood knows how to spin a tall tale. But I always thoughts she was not a direct descendant of Lionel? Whatever. What is she famous for? When is her next movie coming out or was that her next album?
05:37 PM on 09/21/2011
I believe I read that she originally belonged to one of Lionel Richie's former band members. Lionel then adopted her as a small child.

Former BFF....wtf? Makes no sence.. Ohh... its California time.
