Jen Kao Inspired Nail Art: DIY

When we think of terrifying talons, stiletto-shaped nails like those worn by Rihanna, Fergie and Lady Gaga come to mind. But this ombré manicure is quite "dangerous."

Mesmerized by Jen Kao's "Romeo + Juliet" inspired Spring 2012 collection, CND nail artist Wanda Ruiz perfected "lethal love" nail art in moody shades of blue and black that mimic the bold hues found on poisonous frogs. The rich gradiation of color popped against the Los Angeles-born designer's graphic prints.

To recreate this look, you will need to do something most manicurists advise against: apply polish while nails are still wet. Read on if you're willing to take the risk.

Step 1: File and buff nails into an oval shape. Then apply a base coat.
Step 2: Paint on CND Inkwell from the cuticle base up into halfway point of nail.
Step 3: Next, brush on CND Anchor Blue from the middle to the tip.
Step 4: Before the nail lacquer sets, apply a thin layer of CND Speedy Top Coat to blend the two shades.
