Marimekko: 60 Years Of Fabrics And Design (PHOTOS)

HuffPost Social Reading

If you think you don't recognize the name Marimekko, think again. Widely known for their bold and colorful textiles, fashions, and home accessories, Marimekko has made a huge comeback in recent years, most notably through their collaboration with the home furnishings retailer Crate & Barrel.

Established in Finland in 1951, Marimekko was the brainchild of Armi Ratia who brought the company fame and success during the 1960s and '70s through vibrant clothing and home decor that featured innovative and eye-popping patterns, ranging from flowers and stripes to squiggles and squares.

The fantastic firm celebrates their 60th anniversary this year with a new flagship store, which will be opening this week in New York City. We're absolutely thrilled that Marimekko is finally returning to the Big Apple with its own standalone storefront -- its first since its New York City shop in the '60s. Here, we've rounded up some of the company's most iconic (and our favorite) designs over the past 60 years. Check out the slideshow below for a brief look back on the company.

Back to the 60's?---I used to like Marimekko as far as innovative designs that eventually became a bit overwhelming
But I am happy to see them again. I am looking forward to, maybe, bolder colors together with muted ones---Thanks.
