Christian Cota's Capsule Collection for Aldo (PHOTOS)

Designer Christian Cota has an affinity for high heels, "I'm a heel man," he said Tuesday night at his Aldo collaboration celebration. "There's no doubt about that. I've always done heels for my shows, ever since the first in 2008."

It makes sense then that Cota partnered with Aldo — the affordable high heel mecca — for the last three seasons. He has always been a big fan of the shoe store, but says that working with them one-on-one has been an enlightening experience. "Usually all I care about is how elegant or over-the-top the pieces are, it's nice to really get to understand what the customer wants and needs as opposed to just focusing on the aesthetic."

In this new line of footwear, that heightened sense of practicality definitely comes through. For his fall capsule collection with Aldo, Cota went in the opposite direction from his usual feminine aesthetic. The result? Heavy buckled boots in leather and crimson pony hair for fall.

The boots compliment Cota's latest fashion collection for fall, which he told us was inspired by "a mix of western mountain climbing back in the 40's when women started to explore the Alps, and also a little bit of Tibetan colors and designs." The earthy toned shoes, which will be on sale starting October 9th for $200-$250, combine both style and substance and as Cota puts it, "are perfect for trudging around the city during the winter." He continued, "usually all I care about is how elegant or over-the-top they are, it's nice to really get to understand what the customer wants and needs as opposed to just focusing on the aesthetic." And his favorite part about the new line? "The boots have all of the ties in the front and look tricky but really, all you do is unzip the back, slip your feet in and go."

Though Cota's been incredibly busy with his own label (he's moving into the CFDA Fashion Incubator next season), his collaboration with Aldo and upcoming spring line, he has managed to catch a little bit of Paris Fashion Week. His favorite thus far? "Haider Ackermann for sure," he says. "His is always the first show I look at, I just think he is a genius and such a lovely man." Cota also had some insight on Kanye West's much talked about debut line telling us that, "my good friend was working with him and said that he really is very genuine about his passion and desire to learn the technique." He continued, "I did really like the shoes."
