Barbie Models Fall Designer Looks For Charity (PHOTOS)

HuffPost Social Reading

Barbie has always been a fashion chameleon. So, when the plastic trend maven tried on looks from five different CFDA designers, we weren’t surprised to see her pull off each outfit with aplomb.

Tracy Reese, Alice + Olivia, Loomstate, Rogan and Alexis Bittar all created designer dolls sporting ensembles from their fall 2011 collections, and the collectibles (which made their debut on Fashion’s Night Out) are currently on auction to benefit the CFDA’s educational scholarship program.

So, how would the participating designers characterize Barbie’s sartorial proclivities?

“Barbie’s sense of style is feminine, confident and fun,” said Reese. “She gets to be so many different things in so many different outfits, and it is always evident that she is confident in whatever she wears, which is so important. All women should feel great about themselves in what they choose to wear.”

Bittar offered praise for the doll’s adventurous nature. “Barbie is always chic, but she’s never afraid to task risks,” he observed. “She’s a fashion icon because she always dresses to impress, while still remaining classy and consistent with her sense of style.”

And Alice + Olivia's Stacey Bendet concurred. “Barbie is just everything to every woman! She is truly timeless.”

Visit the Charity Buzz site for more information on the auction.

Meanwhile, learn more about Barbie's very public, 50-year romance with Ken.

Will she be wearing garter belts and stockings or just pantyhose under that good time girl dress. I like it.

So are these Barbies and their new fashions going to be produced and available to the general public? I have a good friend who is a fanatical Barbie collector and would love to have these.

I love the new Barbie fashions and Barbie herself, but couldn't help thinking that the display packages would have looked so much better if that awful scan code were on the side instead of the front. It's the first thing that draws your eye and overshadows Barbie and her new clothes.

I don't care what anyone says, I love Barbie and always will. She's the epitome of femininity - free spirited, no holds-barred in terms of fashion, and her own person. And she doesn't even need Ken - lol! How cool is that?
