Candice Swanepoel And Erin Heatherton Talk Victoria's Secret, Dating And Modeling

HuffPost Social Reading

Last Tuesday night, we had the opportunity to have dinner with Victoria's Secret Angels Candice Swanepoel and Erin Heatherton at the Gramercy Park Hotel. While I felt awkward eating cheese cake in front of the pair of statuesque blonde bombshells, I assume that it must have been much worse for them to film the commercial for the new dream angels bra collection in Prague, but I was wrong. Although she paraded around the streets wearing only a bra and underwear, Heatherton wasn't bothered, "It felt fine - you’re surrounded by so many people that we work with all the time. It’s like family. Every advertising shoot or every commercial we do, they’re there." The most important part of the family for Heatherton is obviously the fellow angels. "My best friend’s Candice," she says, "One of my best friends is Lily, and another one of my best friends in the world is Rosie, but she’s not doing Victoria's Secret anymore. And honestly the best thing about working with Victoria’s Secret for me is that they are my best friends in the world, like, the sisters that I never had."

While Victoria's Secret may be a place to make best friends forever, it is not necessarily a place to find a date. Swanepoel says, "I think it's harder to date as an angel, when people meet you it's hard to look past our job, what we look like. They are always trying to impress you, you know, like 'come to my mansion blah blah blah." Not that she's on the market, Swanepoel has been with her boyfriend for the last six years, since she was only 17 years old. Although she feels like she is "married already," that doesn't mean she doesn't have crushes: "I had a little Bieber fever but he got too old," she laughs over dinner. And regarding Tom Ford, "He touches you and you're like oh!" Heatherton, on the other hand, is single. And dating. "I think being an Angel makes [dating], well, I don’t know. I wouldn’t know what it’s like to be any different." Any notable dates recently? "There are so many. There’s dinners and – it’s fun, I mean. I had a boyfriend for a long time and I’ve never really been single as an adult."

Now an ideal Friday night for Heatherton would include the following itinerary: "I would take a bath and then I would play with my dog and probably go out and meet my friends for dinner somewhere. Probably like Barbuto or – I like this place Joseph Leonard, it just opened in the West Village. Mary’s Fish Camp is my number one. I live in the West Village, so I can walk there and walk home. " After dinner, "My friends DJ so I’ll go out and see my friends and dance. Recently, I went out to this place called Westway, which is right near my apartment and my friend Harley [Viera-Newton] was DJing. We always have our songs that we love, like 'Six Foot Seven Foot,' really gangster hip-hop songs and I just hang out with her and it’s just a good night. She’s playing the music, so it’s like a basement party, but more adult."

It is true....the more beautiful you are, the harder it is to find someone who will approach you, or be a nice normal human, or who doesn't just want you for your body...
But, I don't have sympathy for them. They'll find someone.
They are pretty, and from the article don't sound shallow....

If someone is so beautiful, then why don't THEY approach and go after a guy that they truely want rather than just sitting back and accepting just the ones that approach them?

Or, in a society that worships wealth and beauty, is someone who has had life fed to them on a silver platter, egos a little too fragile to even risk the tiniest chance of rejection? Welcome to the valley of the real. :)

Maybe they weren't always made to feel pretty, maybe they were outcasts in high school. It DOES happen, believe me I know it. Other females won't befriend you out of competition and or jealousy. So pretty women might not have high self esteem and yes might be self concious, also perhaps because they have been abused by men who were after their looks.
Rejection sucks. Yes, the beauties should sometimes make the first move, but hey, you never know someones story........

Another white girl from the suburbs getting "hard." Ha ha ha. In case you weren't aware that hip-hop has outlived it's usefulness...

If a normal guy dates a model, and she's a knock-out, chances are good he will be unable to utter a coherent sentence for the entire date. That would be a very tough date.

I have no sympathy for any woman (model or not) who has effectly never been single her entire 'dating' life. And no... going a whole whopping two weeks without a boyfriend some years ago back in highschool does not mean that you know what it's like to be "single".

Anyone who hasn't hasn't gone at least a year or more without so much as a date... does not know what it's like to be "single", or how difficult/frustrating dating can be.

Try to imagine what it's like going at least a year without so much as a date... what it's like to walk into a room and no one notices... and you can't even remember the last time someone of opposite sex even so much as flashed you a smile, who wasn't working at it was their job to be friendly to customers.

Because you know what... this is what life is like for 95% of men. 95% of men go through a spell like that at least once in their life. Many go through a spell like that multiple times, or spells that last much longer than 1 year.

So sympathy for women who will effectly NEVER be single in their whole life? I have none.

Yeah, it sucks when men feel intimidated by you- either for your looks, your brain, your job, whatever. For models it seems a bit complicated, especially since all of them aren't shallow or anorexic, etc.

Most pointless article ever written.

How about the reason they have a hard time getting dates with men of substance is because they themselves have none. The best men out there... REAL men... don't go for bony, silicone-stuffed, self-absorbed airheads who can't string a sentence together. The best dates are those with stimulating, intelligent conversation... something these twits couldn't do if their lives depended on it.

It's the Pretty Girl Paradox at work again: she can't get a date because everyone assumes that someone that gorgeous is already spoken for and steers clear.

There is a distinct possibility that I will lose sleep over these girls not being able to get a date.

Well, maybe not.

Yes, yes. It's sooo hard for models to date. This from two models who both have been dating regularly since they were old enough to do so.

Yes, I'm sure it's so hard.
