Roberto Cavalli: Chanel Is For Grandmothers

“I want it to be that shoppers come to find me. They shouldn’t find me by accident walking in Ginza. I think this is a really winning strategy. I will demonstrate this to the dear Messrs. Chanel or other people like that. Fine, you dress the grandmothers and the mothers and I’ll dress their kids. Even if I’m old, other people don’t know that. I make very young fashion.”

-Roberto Cavalli tells WWD that Chanel is a brand for "grandmothers." I, on the other hand, am relieved that my grandmother does not wear Cavalli.

Who is this guy? Has he looked in the mirror lately?! I am not one to make fun of someone's age but he deserves it this time. Making such a comment.

Cava who? Kids, you like kids? Climb back into the dirty little whole you came out of.

What a nasty and icky little man this Cavalli is! To insult Gabrielle Chanel and Grandmothers everywhere! Just who ARE you? Coco developed timeless, basic frocks and hats and fragrances ( anyone ever hear of Chanel Cristalle? Hard to find but well worth the search-you'll see! ) Her contours and design will never go out of style-never have and never will! But this person; this one who wears his belt out of loop ( who dresses YOU ? ) and spends too much time in the sun ( explains that leathery, weathered look ) has the nerve to insult a fellow of design?! No wonder you prefer to dress the teenagers! They aren't as particular in what they wear! Mr Cavalli just did a HUGE no-no, with that comment. Grandmothers? Chanel? Who is next on your hit list, Sir? Vera?!

Roberto ..who???? LOL am thinking the old goat does not know how to dress a woman or a lady with class. Wish I could afford Chanel.

What Cavelli forgets is that it is the grandmothers who have the money to buy designer clothes, not the teeny boppers he is designing for. All his designs will sit on the racks unsold.

Chanel style eminates pure class and grace, which Cavalli cannot comprehend, he clothes the tacky.

Who is this guy and why do we care what he says

Roberto Cavalli - We grandmothers MUST have something that we may depend on looking beautiful in and Chanel is it.We simply don't need anthing designed by a great, great grand paw! PLEASE continue to dress the very young because most of them would look good in a grocery store bag or a band aid.....whatever.

Cavalli is nuts. Is the Little Black Dress passe? Are diamonds passe? He's just trying to stir up the pot so that women will purchase more of his brand. He needs to know that Chanel is a classic, whether the clothes or the fragrances. Chanel 5 was invented in 1929, I believe, and my grandmother's grandmother used it. It's a connection for ALL women to the women we love and loved, to the great women in our families, to the remarkable women who were classic then and would be classic now. Shame on Cavalli. He has no idea what he's talking about

Oh please, I speak from recent comments...and Nothing, but nothing, is better and more stylish and turns more heads than a classic black dress, with stockings and lovely heels that make your legs look like they go on forever.....Men love it now and always have...Sorry my dear sir, you are all wet..You cannot replace class with anything.....Jane Marsh

I am a grandmother who wears Chanel 5,19 and 22. But funnily enough it has been the #5 that has had young men (my grandson's age) tell me it smells nice. Now that does perk up an old girls outlook on life. And a Chanel suit is still a classy look for any age. Of course I don't think a Chanel shows either your boobs or your butt as many newer styles do. I guess the fact that this is up for discussion on a style that is 50 years old is telling about it's appeal. I doubt anyone will remember his name in 50 years, much less his "style".

I think Cavalli has a style that is unmistakeable and up to the moment - but he looses my repect as a person and designer when he attacks an icon like Chanel, especially when she is not here to defend herself and her line. Chanel is timeless - any woman with style and a few bucks has a Chanel suit in her wardrobe as a must, but Cavalli remains an option! All that Cavalli has done with this statement is show his jealousy for the timeless line of the Chanel brand. Until now I would say "that is a Cavalli - now I will say that is another of those Cavalli's

He's a wannabe. He could never EVER be the fashionista that Chanel was. He's almost laughable.

This from a man who looks as if he were the model for the 1st mummy...tsk tsk You don't have to be insulting to express your opinion or do you???
