D.S. & Durga 'The Orchid Drinkers' Perfume: We Tried It

Inspired by salep (an old-fashioned drink made from ground-up orchid tubers that was once popular in 18th century England), D.S. & Durga's The Orchid Drinkers fragrance is at once both mysterious and earthy. The perfume from the Brooklyn-based couple, which opens with citrus-y bergamot, has a decidedly elegant, old-timey appeal. Though it starts out somewhat heavier, it quickly mellows on the skin: hints of orchid along with sandalwood and white tea take the sharp fruit notes in a sultry, subdued direction. This scent is unique in its ability to remain distinct, but also not overwhelm. Just keep in mind: one spritz will take you well through the evening.
