It would be nicer if the photos actually showed up -- in place of that rotating bug. I played two hands of solitaire waiting for somewhat to happen. Nothing ever did. Cheez! AOL strikes again!

One of the things that brought down her popularity was when she changed her hair style. During WW2 alot of women who worked in the factories wore her hairstyle which sometimes led to injuries from the hair getting caught in machinery. She was asked to change her hair in hopes the women would do the same. Her career was never the same after that because so many people identified her by that look.

And she didn't even make a sex tape.

Hi..No, it was Carol Lombard that "Gable" married and inseparable from all I read, and you are right, he was never the same when his beloved Carol was killed in a plane crash. There is something so intriguing about the Hollywood moguels from the early years. Thank you...Patty

I read that is why he joined the service, to honor Carol's committment to the war effort. Also, even though he was remarried at the time, he requested and was buried next to Carol, Ah.......

The epitome of seductive beauty. The jerk that said she had no body must be blind. All you have to do is look at the pictures.

I do! I enjoy looking at all 1900's, 1920's (love the clothes and hats) 1940's and some of the 50's but they were alittle boring, I think...after that, the 60's weren't as romantic......and as feminine as those era's were...though the 70's loved their styles.

Me too, Happy Birthday, Veronica, ...FINALLY, they are giving you credit, you were always an icon with me, as a child and now tooooo....I have always admired you for your class, and styles, in the 1940's and always tried to make the wave with the hair....too bad celebrities of today are not like celebrities of the yesteryear...!!!

Once again, a dearth of research here. The 1955 photo is totally wrong. Lake had long since ditched the peek-a-boo hairdo and Paramount had long since ditched her. She was washed up in movies, and the relatively young medium of TV as well.

By 1955 Lake was suffering from depression, mental illness, and alcoholism, and was hospitalized with a heart attack. She was hardly the svelte young blonde in the photo. Why can't this feature EVER get the dates right?

I love the Veronica Lake mystique. she was a tiny beautiful woman, not a very talented actress and she died very young, allegedly of hepatitis, but in actuality she died of alcoholism. Once the top box office draw then a lonely alcoholic. Very sad.
11:17 AM on 11/14/2011
Yes, not that talented of an actress but she did have good comic timing.

Yes, very sad, she was one of the most beautiful women, top actress, always staring with Alan Ladd (Cheryl Ladds father in law)
