Louise Brooks: Style Evoluton (PHOTOS)

HuffPost Social Reading

Late actress Louise Brooks didn’t talk in her silent movies, but she didn't have to -- her looks said it all. The Kansas native’s signature short bob, dark lips and cloche hat are still popular today. Maybe that’s why Anna Wintour has kept her similar hairstyle?

In honor of what would have been Brooks’ birthday this Monday, we’re taking a look back at her style during the 1920s in the gallery below.

And have a look through our many other Style Evolutions here.

I've always called this the boopsie hair-do.
And gals in Soho still wear it. And did you ever notice? Blondes rarely ever do.
Only brunettes or girls with flaming red hair - and round glasses.

An absolute stunner of a beauty and a woman way ahead of her times. I heard men were willing to get killed fighting over her but that was just pure publicity to fuel her notorious image of a Hollywood vamp. Her movie, "Pandora's Box" was on TCM channel today.

Really, truly beautiful! Ageless and fascinating. Too bad she didn't make it into the talkies! As to the fashions, they were magnificent and could be worn today by any woman under the age of 30 with the figure and the class to carry it off -- except the tutu thing -- that was obviously just a costume!!!

Free Business Idea to any one aspiring to be a photographer, makeup artist/hair stylist and costume designer. Start a studio called Paper Moons and Pin Up's, give era style makeovers in period hair and makeup then photograph them in similar studio style with the backgrounds.I was looking at Heddy Lemar and Veronica Lake pics stunning like these. Photos like that are better than glamour shots and classier than the boudoir lingerie playboy shots, women sometimes do. I'd do it as a business but I have no talent in any of the above talents. I seriously think there could be a market for this even in this economy.

She didn't choose the so-called dark lipstick. She used a normal red color but the 'orthochromatic' film of the day rendered reds as near-black. 'Panchromatic' b&w film appeared around WW2 and renders reds more accurately.

They don't make beauty like that any more.

She was one of those rare talents that would have bees a star in any era. She was also an accomplished writer, as well as a strong supporter of progressive causes. Quite a lady.

Because she was beautiful, that's why. Beauty is always interesting, don't you think?

I truly love her hairstyle and in 1929 she had same style but was breattakingly beautiful. She made first film at 19 and by 25 it was essentially over. She was a flapper who couldnt make change to "talkies" Lot of them couldnt.
