Stylelist 7: The Best Collar Necklaces (PHOTOS)

Last spring, immediately following the Michael Kors fall show, a coworker rushed to my desk in a tizzy (who says that? I guess I do). She was dying over the polished silver and gold collar necklaces that had just come down the designer's runway. I looked at her askew and pointedly said, "No way. No one wears a collar unless you like to frequent dungeons and be led around on a leash." Months later, I'm biting my tongue. Collar necklaces, the kind that sit right at the base of your throat, are definitely having a moment and I am fully embracing the trend, as should you. Throw one over a button-up blouse as a quirky accent, or wear one with that plunging gown for a night out with you-know-who. However you wear it, do it with confidence, because if anything, it should be you holding the leash. Check out our seven picks below and tell me, will you wear a collar?

Why is this sight allowing such comments from Mary Hall 1990 to post internet scam sight/link when it has absolutely nothing to do with the article in question. In that respect, I agree with the other posters, this trend will be a shortlived one I believe. Very unattractive on anyone unless they are walking the runway and even then it's a close call.

They are not appropriate for winter wear. Who needs a cold heavy piece of metal or plastic to wear around their neck when the weather is freezing? They look stupid with turtlenecks. This kind of Cleopatra-type of look is better in the summer to show off a tan. In the winter, they make a woman with pale skin look like its connecting her head to her body. Only men would design this kind of unfeminine jewelry for winter wear.

I kind of like the scarf type of necklace that you can make using Darice's fabric and beads that are found in craft stores. It has a lot more versatility to it than one piece of polished metal or plastic. It is winter, and you want soft warm fabric around your neck, not a cold piece of metal.

They also look really stupid with a turtleneck. The Michael Kors one is not for someone with a double chin and a short neck. I would expect to see something like this more in the summer, being they have that Cleopatra-look going on. They would look better showing off a tan than making women look like their head is being held onto the rest of their body with a large metal or plastic ring. These are definitely not feminine. They are something that men design. They can do better.

Just because designers come up with an idea, doesn't mean that it is always a good one - especially if you take seasonal dressing needs into account.

They look like dog collars, I'm not liking this trend

No way. Not for me. Too bulky and ugly.

Frankly, I think they're ugly. They look like they're choking. I would not wear one, whether or not it's in style.

They remind me of that tribe in Africa where the women stretch their necks with hoops. What next? Plates in our lips?
