Vanessa Minnillo's Hair Thickening Secret

Hair extensions have made it so easy to achieve thick-looking locks. However, the thought of developing a receding hairline or even worse, going bald, has convinced me to try Vanessa Minnillo's hair secret, Nioxin DiaMax.

I was recently introduced to the product by Nioxin stylists at The Studio in New York City. The new DiaMax Xtrafusion contains a unique combination of ingredients commonly found in skin care such as caffeine, that work together to penetrate the hair's diameter and increase the thickness of each strand.

Nioxin Celebrity Hairstylist Ambassador Betsy Reyes, who has styled Minnillo since her days as a MTV "Total Request Live" VJ, integrated the leave-in treatment into the star's regimen to volumize and protect her hair against everyday wear and tear.

"It allows me to amp up Vanessa's natural texture for a fuller look while strengthening against breakage," says Reyes. "The more hair a client has, the more I use without fear of weighing down or compromising the manageability of their hair."

Reyes reveals that she applies approximately 15 pumps across the entire head, making sure to aim directly at the root. Then she massages the product in and finishes by blow-drying to create a thicker, yet manageable mane.

I was initially hesitant about spritzing Nioxin DiaMax onto my head full of thick curls, but I've been using the treatment for one week -- even skipping the blow dryer to reduce further heat styling damage -- and I love how it instantly fattens up face-framing pieces that tend to fall flat before noon.

Will you try Nioxin DiaMax with HTX ($50) once it hit salons in January?

I'm 62 years old my thick shiny hair is past my hips. The secret to good hair is as few chemicals on it as possible and a good el cheapo shampoo and conditioner like VO5. And yes I braid it all the time, and when it's not braided it's in a ponytail. My hair is brown with grey at the temples, I never color it.........I figure someone doesn't like my grey that's their problem not mine.

Doesn't VO5 have chemicals? I agree with not using alot of expensive products or chemicals. Unfortunately, I'm 61 and my hair is thinning, but I would never use Nioxin again (see my previous post). Also, I can't seem to find a competent hairdresser so I wear my hair in a ponytail, too (my hair would make a very wimpy braid).

I use Oribe volumizer it works great. Usually I have to use a ton of products with an "s" to achieve that look but this product is great. My hair is thinning with age and children and it is processed to the hilt.lol It is expensive but with all the money I wasted trying to get a good thinkening product I'm glad I tried it.

Don't use Nioxin. I almost flipped when I saw this ad. A hairdresser I used to go to suggested the shampoo and conditioner. After a few hair washings, I ended up in the hospital with a severe headache and vomitting. When I returned to the hairdresser and while I was explaining that I thought the shampoo and conditioner had given me a severe migraine, without consulting me she was applying a few drops of Nioxin treatment on my scalp. I stopped her, and it was only about 2 or 3 drops, but I ended up back in the hospital the next day. I've never used this product again, and I've never had a headache like that again. I don't recall there being any warnings on the labels. Also, this is not a news article, it is an ad, it doesn't belong here.

"...especially if you have to use 15 pumps of goo "

This infomercial is on like 5 times a day, and it made my hair feel drier when I was done. The #1 ingredient listed is alcohol so no wonder.

Oh I am thinking of another brand, but probably about the same. Nevermind.

$50.00?? Is that for one use or for a full bottle. A little above my budget limits sorry. I will stick with my drugstore $1.99 thickening brand which works just fine and dandy.

It always amazes me when they show a product such as this they use younger people who usually don't have a thinning problem and people that have ethnic backgrounds of shiny thick hair. If you want us to take you seriously then get some older people or people who have gone through some trama in their lives that have actually caused them to have hair problems and show us how you solved their problems. Just like cosmetics = the young healthy skin girls are showing all of us how to look young lol

I agree w/ you!! She probably has Never had a hair lossage problem her entire life!

I agree, too

Just because she is "ethnic" does not mean she definitely has thick shiny hair. It is probably more common but don't confuse the two as always occurring in pairs...

There really is no secret. Her ethical background consist of mainly South East Asian and Spaniard. Both known to have full thick hair. I'm pretty sure you can pick up any hair thickening mojo at your local WalMart or convienent store. There really is no magic especially if you have to use 15 pumps of goo and a blow dryer. Sounds like same technique I've used in Junior High when the pomps were in.

I wasn't able to edit it like on some other comment pages to correct the spelling but nevertheless, thank you for pointing that out.
