Miss Piggy's Boldest Fashion Statements (PHOTOS)

HuffPost Social Reading

Miss Piggy has long been a fashion icon, but it's been a red-letter year for the sartorially savvy swine.

First, she was cast as the editor of French Vogue in "The Muppets," which hits theaters this week. Then, she was tapped to host Opening Ceremony's Fashion's Night Out, introducing the store's Muppets x Opening Ceremony collection. She modeled looks from the likes of Prabal Gurung in the November issue of In Style. And earlier this month, the fabulous diva collaborated with MAC on a three-piece collection of eye makeup, so fans can emulate her come-hither peepers.

And Miss Piggy has had plenty of other stylish outings in recent years, including front-row seats at New York and London Fashion Week, various TV appearances and even a private fitting with Marc Jacobs (every girl's dream, whether porcine or human). But happily, she hasn't been made into a coat, like her amphibious beau Kermit.

In honor of her new flick, we've rounded up some of our favorite looks throughout the years.

And have a look through our many other Style Evolutions here.

Miss Piggy has maintained a bold style to go along with her enduring fame. She's not afraid to go for what she wants and fears no one... hmm.. Wonder if she's available to run for political office? She would be an improvement over many we have currently in power...

STUNNING..... Wonder about the number and size of the "cups".

Why, oh why, do the media and the muppet people insist on portraying these puppets as if they're real people? It drives me crazy when they're "interviewed" on various talk and news shows. They are a piece of cloth with a hand stuck in them. They do not have lives. It's ridiculous.

This is something you deem a bother?? Try getting a life. Maybe you're having a hard time sorting out fun and fantasy from real life, huh? For most of us, it comes naturally.

It's my opinion, nbb. I'm allowed to have one. I didn't realize I was questioning your life of fun and fantasy. Get a life? That's always fresh. Are you from the early 90's? Good luck with your Muppets. Maybe one can move in next door to you.

Miss Piggy has long been one of my favorite actresses, the other two being Meryl Streep and Maggie Smith. Alas, Miss Piggy has some of the same on-screen difficulties that Katharine Hepburn endured, namely being able only to adapt any given role to her personna. Nevertheless, it must be said that Miss Piggy has a huge screen presence.

Those are some bold fashion statements, indeed. But I think it's in extremely bad taste -- if you will -- to have Miss Piggy wear sausage curls ("A Muppet Christmas Carol," slide 5). Just sayin'...

I cannot believe how much work she's had done over the years. You can barely recognize the young, impressionism young piggy from the current, overdone sow. Sad, really. But that's Hollywood for you.

From Wikipedia:

"The teats of the sow can be quite variable in number, from six to thirty, and are located on two parallel lines along the belly."

Just sayin'.
