CustomMade Curator: Vintage Vacuum End Table

HuffPost Social Reading
Photo from Studio 1212

Of all the things we dream of repurposing, an old vacuum cleaner doesn't exactly come to mind right away...or ever. But it definitely was the inspiration for the CustomMade designers of Studio 1212 who created this fantastic end table made from a 1954 Electrolux vacuum cleaner. Renowned artist Marcel DuChamp may have originated the idea of found art, but we like this modern twist of taking everyday mid-century items and turning them into functional works of art. The use of a glass table top brings focus to the crisp lines of the mod design, and we love how the studio playfully left the handle on to pay homage to the vacuum's original purpose. Another bonus: the table comes as a set of two.

Damn, I just gave away my age. I looked and that and instantly said to myself 'oh...an Electrolux vacuum table.'
And I'm a guy.

Anyone who pays this price for a table that cost under $150 to create should have their head examined. With all the people starving in the world today, people should be ashamed of themselves to spend money on this type of junk. All the artist (if that's what you consider him) is doing is ripping people off with this extraordinary price tag.

So, with all of the people starving in the world and you bought a computer? How selfish.

Where in the world do they get all this junk?????? It is not art, it is not neat, it is shocking in how stupid it is. I can just see it now tipping over and breaking and then wishing you had the vacuum so you could clean it up. I should start writing for HuffPost, they pay good money for such crappy articles. I hope I could at least write something relevant that was not just space fillers.

Shocking would be a table made from an old electric chair

Um..yeah..shocking.

Jeez...

If these designers were truly clever, they would have made the table self-cleaning. It has the capability!

Nice Art Deco Electrolux~! I wish I had my grandmother's. Essentially the same design since the early 20s I think, and there's one in the Smithsonian design collection. Nice piece. Oh, and thanks for baiting me into looking AOL. Your use of the word ''shocking'' is certainly restrained, isn't it? I was expecting a table made out of Electric Eels or Embalmed Kittens at least.

"shocking" material!?!? Come on Huffpost... don't you think you're overusing the shocking bit?

Human skin would be shocking. A pile of elephant dung might be shocking but an old vacuum cleaner?

Not shocking.

I know; I thought it was going to be made from electrons or something.

Electrons instead of Electroluxes?
