In need of some holiday hair inspiration? Consider giving your locks a good tease with the modern beehive. Less Amy Winehouse and more Joan Holloway of "Mad Men," this retro hairdo has withstood time.

Actresses Emma Stone, Blake Lively and Salma Hayek were spotted with updos reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast at Tiffany's." Additionally, on the Fall 2011 runways of Bottega Veneta, Jean Paul Gaultier and Peter Som, models' hair were taken to new heights. And Stylelist network blogger Keiko Lynn put her own spin on the hairstyle with a braided headband.

"Beehives have been seen on the red carpet for years, but most recently I think that the stakes are higher as more personal stylists are available," according to Robert Vetica, Moroccanoil global brand ambassador and celebrity stylist. "It's easier now to get it right then in the past when the studios were not paying for the glam team."

Vetica adds, "Today more then ever, we are taking from the past to recreate the present, and in some cases, we actually recreate the exact hairstyle. The only difference is that fashion has changed, so the combination makes it modern."

Yet, the celebrity stylist recommends not getting tangled up in perfecting this look and instead focus more on creating the illusion that we just left the salon. Read on as Vetica breaks down a simple way to get this style at home:

• Begin by sectioning the hair into two parts. Divide the sides and back of the hair into section one and the crown of head into section two.
• Gather section one into a ponytail just below the crown. Conceal holder with small portion of hair and secure with bobby pins.
• Next, take section two and give it a good teasing at the root up to mid-shaft before directing this hair towards the ponytail. Use a paddle brush to smooth, making sure not to remove volume.
• Once you've created desire shape, pin left over ends into ponytail and finish style with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray for a manageable hold.
