Craft Of The Day: Frosted Wine Bottles Using Salt

HuffPost Social Reading
Photo by Tracie Stoll of Cleverly Inspired

We'd be surprised if you didn't have a few empty wine bottles lying around, especially during the holiday season. Instead of throwing them in the recycle bin, try upcycling them into frost-covered winter decor using...salt! Don't believe us? Try this easy craft out and see for yourself.

What You'll Need
Wine bottle
Primer
Epsom salt
Spray glue

How To Make It
1. Remove label from bottle.
2. Spray a coat of white primer on the bottle.
3. Pour Epsom salt into a tray.
4. Spray bottle with glue and roll the tacky bottle in the salt. (Sprinkle some glitter on to make them sparkle too).
5. Let dry.

I had saved about 20 wine bottles because I planned on doing something creative with them. I lost my job and decided to rent my house out so I wouldn't lose it. As my brother and his friend were helping me move, they came across the 20 wine bottles. They both asked if I needed to join AA! I said that I was going to turn them into lights or something. I still have some of them and I may try the salt thing. I'm just glad it's Epsom salt instead of regular salt because I could see the trail of insects heading towards it! I hope everybody is having a great Christmas!

They make great shapes for sifi spacecraft! Sleak line, smooth surfaces and the glass glitter. Painted right and you got some windows where you can do neat lighting effects

Remember the days of dripping candle wax down wine bottles. It was a fun hippy thing to do and the end result was beautiful.

I guess I'd surprize you as I don't have any wine bottles laying around. Remember the bottle cutter they used to market? That'd be something to have. Saw demonstration of it. Some pretty nice items made with it.

If you know where I can get that bottle cutter I would appreciate it. Got some real nice dark green bottles just waiting to be made into vases or candle holders! They cost $50 a piece when they were full, hate to just throw them away.

Wish I did. I'd get one for myself. Haven't seen ads for it in years. About the same for that rock tumbler.
