David Bowie: Style Evolution (PHOTOS)

HuffPost Social Reading

Davie Bowie and his outlandish style has long been a reference point in the fashion world. In the January issue of German Vogue, heiress and socialite Daphne Guinness channeled her inner Ziggy Stardust, Bowie’s alter-ego. Meanwhile, Kate Moss, with her angular bone structure, looked like the singer's twin in French Vogue's music issue.

While his early on-stage fashion continues to inspire numerous editorials, Bowie's current look has turned a different corner. The London native has moved on from mohawks, flashy costumes and ill-fitting ensembles to tailored suits, dad turtlenecks, and in general, a more toned-down look. Maybe he's giving his supermodel wife Iman a chance to outshine him for once?

Check out David’s style evolution as he celebrates his 65th birthday this Sunday with Iman.

And have a look through our many other Style Evolutions here.

Disagree. I thought his '74 to '76 "plastic soul" period was even cooler than Ziggy.

What a great looking couple. I am in awe of them. A few pics are out of order.

I've always liked the style of Bowie and Iman. Some couples just belong together, but rarely do they age so well.

A true actor/model at heart, Mr. Jones (as blank-slate a birthname as one could hope for) has experimented with any number of public personae over the years, and has been alternating Savile Row and Carnaby Street looks at least since the Sixties. I wouldn't be surprised to see him show up back in pink leather someplace tomorrow.

I'm a decidedly "uncool" geezer, but have always appreciated Bowie's "cool factor". His latest style suits his maturity.

Iman gets better with age. Being with Bowie must agree with her. Happiness shows.

He's a guy that certainly did it "My Way'. Rather listen to him sing 'Wild is the Wind' tho. Happy Birthday to my personal favorite always.
