Jennifer Hudson On Shopping For Her Smokin' New Shape

HuffPost Social Reading

As I've watched Jennifer Hudson shed an unbelievable 80 pounds, I've wondered how the 30-year-old diva's approach to dressing has changed. Determined to know how the transformation has impacted her style, I made a beeline for the "Dreamgirls" actress when she arrived at an event in honor of her Good Housekeeping cover Tuesday night.

"I just love fashion now," Hudson said, looking gorgeous in a mustard-hued Roland Mouret dress and vertiginous Giuseppe Zanotti wedges. "It's so much more flexible, and there are so many more options out there now. I feel like my own little Barbie doll--I get to dress myself up." She was quick to add the challenges of dressing for her newly fit figure. "Because it's a new body, I'm trying to find out, how do I want to be perceived? Who is this new me? I knew how to be the big girl, but now I have to find out how to be this girl. At times, I can't sleep at night because I'm like, 'Oh, what am I going to wear tomorrow?' or 'I can't wait to go shopping tomorrow.' It drives me crazy."

So, what item is Hudson most excited to wear post-weight loss? "Heels!" she proclaimed. "I hated heels before, but that's all I wear now."

And, what's her greatest fashion regret? "That pink dress in the commercial," she said. (We're pretty sure she's referring to the "before" look in her Weight Watchers ad.)

In related news, we're proud of Hudson for shaving off those pounds, but did you know she once considered shaving her head?

and her knees? I've lost faith in humans if all we can do is critique someone on their knees..

I find it so sad how many people are on here telling her to get over herself.. You guys have no idea how she may have felt about herself before. And now that she truly loves herself, you guys are saying she seems arrogant.. maybe she's just happy with herself for once. If you can't be happy for her, then why even read articles like this?

Congrats girlfriend ... you are stunning. You have a man that was there with the extra weight, took you through the storm and you have a beautiful baby boy together.

Others WISH they were so fortunate.

She's really a bad example. Moderation is a key word. Shedding a reasonable-healthy amount of pounds is fine, but being crazy about it and in the process losing the power and beauty of her voice is insane!

If she keeps losing weight, she's going to have to change "barbie doll" to "bobble head."

Only an idiot would GAIN the weight in the first place.

Did anyone see the Oprah show she did where she decided to fly to Houston the night before the airing and made the whole show late/off schedule? That made me not like Jennifer Hudson. Who does she think she is? Got a little full of herself if you ask me.

I am genuinely surprised by the lack of support for this beautiful and talented woman. She endured a tragic horrific loss only a short time ago when members of her family were murdered. The kind of loss that many people do not recover from. That she is thriving, now, and in the best shape and voice of her life is a testament to her faith and strength. I find her example inspiring. Sometimes what people are able to accomplish regarding weight loss (which is NOT a superficial thing) is really about a spiritual decision they have made to continue to live. At any rate, I wish her a long and healthy life and a hugely successful career. Brava, Jennifer!

Sweetie...you look nice and all...but you need to get rid of those wedge heels. You're knock-kneed...and you draw more attention to it with those heels.
01:34 AM on 01/15/2012
I agree about the shoes being ugly but she may have the problem that a lot of people who were overweight while growing up-not knock-knee but misshapen legs that bent to support the extra weight while they were growing. It's not something that's correctible (or if possible, would involve massive knee surgeries and leg braces for extended time!) just by losing weight since the bones were formed under the extra weight and stay that way, very hard to "disguise" especially when wearing any outfit that shows bare legs. She would have an easier time covering it up by wearing pantsuits or jeans. But if she wants to wear dresses, guess that's her prerogative (or her stylist's!)

No...the shoes are not necessarily ugly...but I know regardless if your knock-kneed or have misshapen legs.....depending on the shoes you wear, they will bring more attention to it. Those wedge heels do. I've seen her in thinner heels and it's not so much.
05:34 AM on 01/15/2012
Yep-didn't like the shoes. : )
12:44 AM on 01/15/2012
Glad you lost it but you might want to GAIN a bit of HUMILITY!

Don't say everything you think, Jen.

It comes off quite arrogant.
08:34 AM on 01/15/2012
She was a very vocal person before the weight loss. Maybe people are seeing it as something different now. But, I know... I've followed her since American Idol. By the way, the legs aren't going to change. The shoe type isnt going to make a bit of difference. I know, I have the same issue. Jen, YOU ROCK!

A hottie with a voice.Poor you.
09:37 PM on 01/14/2012
can there be a story that doesn't revolve around her weight loss? I cannot imagine, this poor girl is only spoken about if it is her weightloss. If there is another story about her--it inevitably comes up....weight watchers....she lost this much....ugh. poor thing. now if she could work on correcting those knock knees.
