This comment has not yet been postedIf you want to buy a house might I suggest buying one that has an unfinished basement? If the basement looks soooo nice with the panelling and the carpeting is nice and you really want the house then, please, have a house inspector come and remove some of the panelling to check for water leaks and black mold before you buy the house. Your family and your lungs will thank you for it.
- Meet your own expectations in function, aesthetics and quality of work.
- Not reduce the value of the house.
- End on Sunday, job finished, cleanup completed...satisfaction in a job well done.

Saving money, saving energy, making dollars as well as sense. A win/win situation for very little effort and surprisingly low cost.
Our former home owner built the fireplace on top of the wood crawl space. So, while my husband and I were icebound and stuck at home we built a fire in the fireplace and the wood crawl space caught on fire underneath us. We lost everything but our lives and consider ourselves very lucky on that count, too.
My husband noticed a puff of smoke rise behind the couch - coming from the air vent - and when he went to check and opened the basement door the air that rushed in gave the fire that breath of life it needed to go to town. The backdraft sucked my husband down to the bottom of the basement stairs in a flash. He's lucky he didn't die from the smoke.
Glad your husband survived.
