Doo.Ri Chung: Macy's Collaboration Includes Jersey Dresses, Patterned Trench Coats And More (PHOTOS)

HuffPost Social Reading

Michelle Obama favorite Doo.Ri Chung was an overachiever in 2011: not only did the Korean-American designer have a baby nine months ago, she also dressed the first lady for a state dinner in October and designed a collection for Macy's. And she has no plans of slowing down.

"I knew I needed to have a draped dress and a trench," Chung explained at the launch of her new collection. "Those are my two basics." Known for designing gorgeous, draped jersey pieces and wearable, ladylike fashion, these two pieces do not disappoint, nor does the rest of the collection (shown below). "I think they're very wearable, I'd love to have pieces in a museum but I don't know if that's what I am about as a designer. When I saw the McQueen exhibit, it was exquisite, but you don't see people walking down the street in McQueen. I want to see people wearing my clothes."

People of all shapes and sizes: "Jersey is a very forgiving fabric," she explains, "I think people are too concerned with being size-specific. I have worn everything from a 0 to an 8. I love to wear things over-sized, there's nothing sexier than a big sweater with a hint of shoulder."

Chung's new collaboration with Macy's is only the beginning. Although she may be busy, the designer hasn't ruled out expanding her style empire: "I would love to design children's clothes! My son has been given so many great outfits, but they are all so complicated. Time is everything. And, there aren't as many great clothes for boys... he wears a lot of stripes."

How does she do it all? "I am addicted to the pace, I guess," she calmly said. "Right now, we are all running on adrenalin. No one on the team is sleeping." That's because Chung will be presenting her Franz Kline-inspired Fall 2012 collection at New York Fashion Week this February, "I am excited to sleep once the show is over. That is something that I really miss."
