Ellen Degeneres' Style Evolution (PHOTOS)

HuffPost Social Reading

Ellen DeGeneres' love of menswear began years before it became trendy, but it doesn’t mean she always got it right. The Louisiana comedian and talk show host wore high-waisted, baggy and unflattering suits throughout the 90s. Even her casual outfits exuded a masculine vibe -- roomy vests, white sneakers and blazers with wide lapels.

Thankfully, DeGeneres has refined and streamlined her style. She still wears suits, but they’re sleeker, fitted and more feminine. While she definitely wouldn’t be caught in a dress or skirt (unless it’s for a laugh), we think that DeGeneres should invest in suits by Tom Ford and Rachel Zoe. Both designers have created menswear styles that would fit DeGeneres’s aesthetic like a glove without going overboard.

Take a look at DeGeneres’ suit evolution as she celebrates her 54th birthday this Thursday with her longtime partner, Portia de Rossi.

Meanwhile, check out this video for a look at DeGeneres like you’ve never seen before.

'...longtime partner, Portia de Rossi.' ?? Portia is Ellen's WIFE!... has been for a few years now. Would that have been so difficult to write?

Surprised that she hasn't pulled a "Chaz" yet. I have never seen her wear anything other then men's clothes since day one.

I agree. I see no evolution in style over the years. She dresses like a guy. Nothing special there.

Ellen is one of a kind. I never hear her blaming or complaining about how she is being mistreated because she is gay. She is first and foremost a kind and compassionate person with a sense of humor that is always in good taste. She manages to crack you without being sarcastic or putting other people down. She is truly gifted. I appreciate that she loves animals, especially dogs.

Having Certain People jammed down our throats non stop for decades invites a well deserved dislike of them. Same goes for any other group who just cant get that huge chip off their shoulder, blaming every thing wrong with their lives on others, and they simply won't move on like the rest of us struggling for a good life. I would rather know what the weather is outside, than how an a commedian is wearing through the years

I try to form my opinions on how a person acts towards other people, and how they treat them. Who or how they choose to sleep with, well, that's none of my bidness. (Yes, 'bidness'. I'm speaking Texan here).

Doesn't matter what Ellen is wearing. She is a beautiful woman and soooooooooo compassionate. How much more perfect can she get? Not to mention her sense of humor and her Cover Girl commericals. lol She's crazy. WTG Ellen. Keep up the good work. And she even talks "whale". ;)

Ellen has a wonderful show and a heart of gold and helps so many people, I wish there were more people out in the world that were as generous and out=going to people in dire straits. However, if these are the type of clothes they will lbe selling at J.C. Penney, including the underwear she always gives her guests, I will not be choosing them for my wardrobe. UNLESS, I can wear a silk scarf around my neck or a lace blouse underneath,, bling galore and high heels!

She has a pretty face, the clothes are nice on her. She is not the type for frilly clothes. To each its own I suppose.
She sure was very pretty once.

I love Ellen, but have always wondered: why do some lesbians dress like men? Do they feel they are actually men? I have nothing against GLBT people whatsoever - I'm just wondering!

Lesbians don't hate men they just don't want to have sex with them. Like all woman lesbians have different tastes some are more into tomboy and menstyle clothes and some are ultra girly just like straight woman. I am straight and very girly my best friend is not she is straight but prefers slacks and tailored jackets and she won't wear high heels or make up.
