Design Inspiration: 12 Clever TV Rooms

HuffPost Social Reading

It goes without saying that the TV room, which is also sometimes called the media room, is the entertainment hub in the home. It's where everyone goes to relax after a long day to bond over a favorite television show or gathers for conversation and game nights. So needless to say, comfort is top priority in a TV room, but that doesn't mean it should by any means fall short in style. Believe it or not, there are ways to design with (and not around) a large TV, from mounting a television over the fireplace or placing it atop a functional stand. Flip through the slideshow below for 12 fantastic TV rooms where the television doesn't always take center stage.

A stocked bar, a cushy couch and a big flat screen TV -- we dare say it's the perfect media room. Moreover, the graphic zebra-print rug stands out in the space in contrast to the textured wood-tone walls.

very inspiring all you need is a job paying about 100,000,000 a year to have a house and set up like those

There is nothing uglier than a TV screen staring out at you. It almost makes you feel that you are being
interrogated by the secret police. And, what's to watch on TV anyhow? Are you not tired of seeing a
group of smug, self-centered people sitting aroung a table voicing their opinions about anything and
everyone? Disgusting!

this story should have been entitled "media rooms for people who don't care about the quality of the picture or sound but wanna say they have a "media room""

a "media room" with a tube tv? really? maybe if this is 1991...
not 1 mention of surround sound or any sound considerations whatsoever?
most of the TVs, even the flat screens, looked VERY dated,,,how old is this piece / those pictures?

very poor article that is downright insulting to people who give a darn about quality.

I saw it too... Tube Tee Vee ? How old is this "designer crap?" (funny post) looks like tv was after thought.

What a lousy story! Heck, my modest TV room with its 65" large screen, surround sound, fireplace, indirect lighting, overlooking the Bay, is far more spectacular than any of these shown. Not much work went into this story to get a paycheck. Shameful!

OK, so being curious of course I wanted to compare designer media rooms to ours, looking for maybe something new or a clever idea. While some of the rooms in this clip are OK our is as fabulous as any pictured and better than several. No sour grapes, merely fact. Our has high pitched ceiling, one side faces out onto the pool and lanai, another merely looks out on our tropical garden and the lake. The ceiling is lauhala matting and bamboo beams, non glass walls earth toned and textured, bar at one end and powder room at the other and and and. Glad I was curious, proved our is up there with the best. Of course that's how our homes have always been and we get to reside in them..Comfy, cozy, quiet, ---eat your heart out.

Your FIRED!! This is all crap!! I was thinking this was going to be good. And its all BS!

they all look contrived and unusable space...why, in a "media room," are none of the seating areas actually FACING the media..?

What a worthless piece. Instead of "12 Clever TV Rooms", I think a more apt title would be "12 Random TV Rooms and Trite, Unqualified Commentary."

What a worthless article. Instead of "12 Clever TV Rooms" I'd call it "The First 12 TV Room Pictures I Could Find, Along With a Trite, Unqualified Commentary."

How many ways can thiese "designers" illustrate uncomfortable, inappropriate, ill-conceived, cold and just plain horrible!

Horrible! As a professional interior painter for the last 20 years, I've seen hundreds of TV rooms and these rooms are right up there with the worse ones! Sorry but I think a TV/Media room should be warm, inviting and relaxed, and focused on the TV that you came in the room to watch in the first place. These rooms show none of that. Sorry!

The media room is a great idea for getting rid of your unfun friends or family. After they get a healhy crick in their neck from looking sideways they won't be back.
