Rihanna Dyes Hair Blond For Elle: Love It Or Leave It? (PHOTOS, POLL)

HuffPost Social Reading
My favorite hair color chameleon Rihanna has traded in her mousy brown curls for a bleached blond blow-out. The 23-year-old "Talk That Talk" singer tweeted a topless photo of her new 'do Thursday night with the message: "#Back2Work 1st Cover of the year!!!! #ELLE." Details on which issue have yet to be revealed. While Rihanna is no stranger to lighter locks -- recently sporting a blond pixie wig for an Armani Jeans ad campaign and an angled bob in her "You Da One" video -- she reassured her Twitter followers that she had colored her hair for real this time, saying: "lol! I dyed it for #ELLE...bleach + weave #WERQ." Later that night, she was spotted courtside at a basketball game between the Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Clippers showing off that shag, which channels Tina Turner during her "Private Dancer" era. I'll admit that I missed the rocker RiRi with her edgy and piecey haircuts, but I'm on the fence with this look. What do you think? In related news, take a look at Rihanna's craziest bikini moments.

The girl is stylish; you can't hate on her and her style is wearable unlike some other women in the industry.

Is there something wrong with African Americans wearing their hair naturally? For Black women straighten their hair while Black men avoid showing their hair by trimming it as short as possible. Through their actions both seem to express a strong dislike for their own hair. I think this is a real problem since it reflects an inferiority complex. As to Rihanna, I can only imagine what kind of message impressionable young African American girls are internalizing as a result of this image she is projecting.

There is a real movement among African American women to start wearing their hair natural. I just went to a hair show in St. Louis with over 1500 women wearing their hair in its natural state. Atlanta last week had a "Fro Week". Just because it hasn't hit mainstream media yet, doesn't mean we're not out there. And just for a fun fact, all that glitters ain't gold, a lot of African American celebrities are natural underneath the wigs and weaves. Some use it as a protective styling to keep from damaging their real hair. Some do wear them to fit into mainstream media. I understand your point and you're right to some extent.

That girl does have some serious issues. I heard her say in an interview once, that she was shocked, and delighted at how light her complexion had become since spending more time on the eastcoast. Frankly, I was horrifed when she said it. I knew in that moment the brown paper bag theory was still alive, being taught, and she had learned an obsolete life lesson. I also felt she didn't deserve the money her darker complexion fans were spending to buy her music. For me what she had said was a slap in the face to anyone of dark complexion, and not all dark skin is African American.

really?

why just stop at blond hair. she has enough money that she could contract micheal jacksons disease that bleached his skin, get some blue contacts and she could stop being a self-loathing black and become the white girl she wishes she was

i dont give a sh*t what anyone says. we have no business trying to espouce whittie. we cant look like him, for the most part i would be ashamed to act like him, and i certainly wouldnt want to be him. get it together.

the question shouldnt be 'does the hairt dye look good', but rather ...How long til her self loathing completely engulfs her and she falls apart....or worse

.......Why do you care so much? Perhaps some black people just like to dye their hair funky colours? Get a life man! Don't get so worked up over something that really should not bother you this much.
11:23 PM on 02/05/2012
Something as silly as Rihanna dying her hair blonde should not bother you this much lol. Could it be such a possibility that the woman just likes to dye her hair funky colours? Get a life man! Vent about something that matters.

She's not going to satisfied until every bit of her natural hair hits the floor, putting all those harsh chemicals in it. Looks better then that screaming for attention schizophrenic parrot red she was wearing. To bad she's not comfortable enough in her own DNA to wear closer to her natural color. Bottom line here is she and others can change to any color eyes, or hair they want, It won't ever change who and what they are.

04:53 PM on 02/05/2012
wow you sound like a racist . So you think she is trying to look white? And this bothers you ? Racist.
07:34 PM on 02/06/2012
I sound like a racist ? lucky for you I read the replies and you are not just wasting your time but i was thinking about answering you back because its wasting my time . Im not being racist im just telling the truth black women especially black women in the industry dye their hair the lightest blonde to look white all because their people tell them to do it to get white people to like them more and that tells me you are not happy with yourself , some of them go as far as bleaching their skin once again it means they are ashamed of their race and think that white is more beautiful instead of embracing theirself the way they were born . Most of them dont even look right and how do you know what my race is ? You dont know if im black or white so why make a dumb comment? Everytime somebody says something about the black race you call them a racist without even knowing the race of the person saying it .
