Sperry and Milly Team Up: These Aren't Your Dad's Boat-Shoes (PHOTOS)
When I was little my dad exclusively wore Sperry Top-Siders, otherwise known as "boat shoes," so I was pretty shocked, then, to see young women running around New York wearing metallic versions of the classic style. Once I saw the shoes on Blake Lively's character Serena van der Woodsen on "Gossip Girl", I knew the trend was here to stay.
Well, the heritage brand is about to get even cooler: designer Michelle Smith of Milly has teamed up with Sperry to design a capsule collection for spring 2012. The twenty styles will definitely give you pause -- they are quite the departure from the Top-Siders of yore. Adorned with Milly's signature bright prints and even available in wedge and platform styles (!), it's enough to make my dad scoff at the very notion of these being the same boat-shoes that he lives in.

I know what I'll be wearing this summer as I sweat it out in the city. At least I'll be able to pretend I'm out boating in Martha's Vineyard or someplace equally fabulous.
