Kelly Clarkson's Sleek Super Bowl Hair (PHOTO, POLL)

HuffPost Social Reading

As Kelly Clarkson delivered a flawless performance of the national anthem at the 2012 Super Bowl on Sunday night, I was totally tuned into the singer's perfect hair. The 29-year-old "American Idol" winner hit every note of the "Star Spangled Banner" while sporting blunt bangs and pin-straight strands.

Following the banging brunette trend sparked by celebrities like Leighton Meester, Kim Kardashian, Rose Byrne and Jennifer Love Hewitt, Clarkson's rich color and sharp cut surprisingly complements her round face shape, and is a much-needed departure from the brassy blond hair we're used to seeing.

"The dark chestnut looks great on her skin but what completes the look is her heavy fringe," says Marie Robinson, Clairol color director. "It frames her face nicely and looks super glossy and chic."

To achieve this not so girl-next-door look, celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson recommends blow drying with a flat brush using Build It hair spray. Then use a flat iron to smooth hair, and finish with Beautiful Hold to calm fly-aways.

The hair was not the issue... it was her singing.
