New York Fashion Week: DJ Brad Walsh Predicts That Lana Del Rey Will Be Overplayed

HuffPost Social Reading

Next up in our Fashion Week DJ profiles is Brad Walsh. The boyfriend of "Project Runway" winner Christian Siriano, Walsh is a man of many talents. He not only DJs, he also is a songwriter, a producer and a photographer. We can't wait to see him at Siriano's show, as he always supports his boyfriend from the DJ booth.

Below, Walsh tells us the worst song to play at a fashion show, what he wears when DJing and more.

What show would you most like to DJ?
My own, in the future.

What is the first fashion show you DJ'ed?
The first fashion show I ever provided the music for was Christian Siriano's first collection. He gave me that opportunity, which I'll always be grateful for. I played all my own original music, which was created for the show.

What was the first fashion show you ever went to?
The very first was in 2006 or 2007 and I went to five in one day. DVF, Lela Rose, and Diesel were some of them. Definitely DVF was one of them. I'll never forget that day, I got to speak to DVF and Barry Diller backstage and I was hooked from then on.

What song should never be played at a fashion show?
"Falling Down" by Avril Lavigne.

What is the best song to play at a runway show?
The one that fits the collection so well that you feel like you're in a movie, or another world, or alone with the clothes.

What songs are you planning to play during Fashion Week?
I'm really into this brand new summery, moody, danceable track by Hustle Roses called "Alive," it's got a great beat and it's impossible to hear without moving your body. Bossy Love and Colour Coding are two new bands that were formed from members of one of my favorite Australian bands, Operator Please, and they both have new stuff out that's just incredible. I'll play them during parties but for the runway shows that I soundtrack, I compose original music. This season I'm experimenting with some odder sounds.

What do you wear if you are DJing a show or party?
At a show I usually end up wearing the most uncomfortable option because it's what looks best. A nice suit or something cool with things everywhere. And I'm tugging at every corner of it, but a fashion show only lasts fifteen minutes. If I'm at a party or DJing Fashion's Night Out, if it's somewhere I'm going to be for a while and moving around, then I'm usually in something comfortable. Jeans and a sweater or a jacket. I don't care how cool you are, a sweaty suit is never cute.

What is currently on your playlist?
"Alive" by Hustle Roses
"Where Have You Been" by Rihanna
"Black White and Blue" by Ladyhawke
"She's A Blast" by The Beautiful Bodies
"Fool of You" by Bossy Love
"Night of Your Life" by David Guetta and Jennifer Hudson
"When the Night Falls" by Chromeo and Solange
"Wild Ones" by Sia and Flo Rida

What is your prediction for most overplayed song during the shows or parties?
I was at Madonna's "W.E." after-party last night and I think I heard "Heartbeats" by The Knife. I mean, that's a great song, but... it's been the better half of a decade, people. It has to go away before it can come back. I'm going to predict Lana Del Rey for this season as the one who's overplayed... if only to jinx it so that it has no chance of happening.

What is the last song you downloaded?
My own song "Secret Eater," from iTunes, because I didn't have it on my phone.

What is the most played song on your iPod?
"Shadowboxer" by Fiona Apple.

What is your go-to song of all time?
You really can never go wrong with "Girls & Boys" by Blur. There is literally no moment when it's not appropriate to play.

Brad's music for Christian's shows goes so far beyond DJing it's its own art form -- it creates such a mood for each show and only intensifies the experience of seeing the clothes. Cheers all around!
